I transitioned from my position at the National Bank of Belgium to accompany my partner on a diplomatic assignment as the Belgian Customs Attaché in Beijing. This move provided me with a unique opportunity to explore new professional paths. However, the outbreak of COVID-19 and the resulting restrictions required me to reassess and adapt my short-term career goals. Despite these unforeseen circumstances, I remained committed to my professional development during our time in Beijing.I took on the role of Security Coordinator for the construction of the new Belgian Embassy in Beijing, where I was responsible for managing on-site security operations. Additionally, when offered the chance to teach English at the Lycée Français International de Pékin, I did not hesitate to embrace this opportunity.Both roles allowed me to adapt to both remote and in-person working and teaching environments, navigating the challenges posed by the pandemic with flexibility and resilience.As a result, I was able to dedicate more time to supporting my spouse in her role and actively engaging with a diverse international community. During this period, I organized and hosted various events, networked extensively, and built strong connections with individuals from a wide range of countries, industries, and professions.
