The role as L&D officer includes maximising the training capacities of our staff team. In particular, I ensure that our Assessors and Verifiers are exceeding industry standards through CPD. Establishing and maintaining basketball participation for primary school children by creating Rocks Community Clubs throughout Scotland. These sessions provide pathways to local basketball teams and other sporting provision, with the aim of encouraging long-term participation in a recreational or competitive capacity. This project also develops a strong volunteer and paid employment network which creates several opportunities for established and aspiring sports coaches in Glasgow and beyond.Achievements*Created a first-ever bespoke basketball block in which children could achieve their Dynamic Youth Awards*Trained as Agency Moderator for the charity due to my passion and experience in training and qualifications (Similar to Internal Verifier Qualification)*Created the Scottish Sports Futures website. Continually maintaining and updating the operation and content of the site.*Within weeks of I had created a new structured framework for the classes which included coach training*Self-trained on Adobe Software to create 110 pieces of artwork for nationwide campaign; including certificates, posters and activity cards*Created 6 videos using software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Pinnacle Studio and Windows Movie Maker*Chosen to deliver several all-staff training days which includes coaching delivery, using the website and social media.*Brought the programme to 6 local authorities*Created the most successful number of attendances in a year for our basketball classes.

I was responsible for front of house activities such as morning warm-ups, lunchtime challenges and parent interaction. This job also included providing written evaluations of the coaches with the view of standardising and improving coaching style and customer service.

Working in primary schools, I delivered basketball sessions infused with life-skills lessons. I coordinated workshops in which the players from the Glasgow Rocks educate children on healthy living. I also played an integral part at large-scale tournaments to coach and organise youth teams before they play in front of large crowds.

Responsibilities include tailoring one-on-one gym inductions and setting individual training programmes. The job requires close interaction with a variety of people and an ability to respond and make decisions through sports and exercise science advice. Creating, monitoring and analysing customer training databases is also required in this process; therefore a high proficiency in I.T. is essential.

During this residential three-week sports camp I was in charge of ensuring a fun and varied programme for children ranging from 4-14 years old. Using experience I created progressive coaching sessions in over 14 sports; tailoring each session to ability of participants and equipment available.Achievements:-• Nominated for an award as the best King’s Camps’ coaching staff.

Selected as a representative of International Citizen Service (ICS), I was awarded a fully-funded placement as a Team Leader, via the global development organisation Skillshare International. I was chosen for this project, funded by the Department for International Development, to lead and oversee a group of seventeen sport and life-skills volunteer coaches in South Africa for three months. In addition to my role as Team Leader, I was appointed ICS Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator on behalf of Coaching for Hope. I conducted in-depth field work within three of Coaching for Hope’s partner organisations which host ICS volunteers: international sport for development NGO Amandla EduFootball; schools-sport NPO Making an Impact Through Sport; and life skills through sport CBO Oasis.

I was recommended to the Sport for Social Change Network by Coaching for Hope to spearhead research and communications. Under the guidance of Soccer 4 Hope Programme Manager Karl Voysey, I liaised with organisations across the Western Cape Province in South Africa to ascertain what their monthly activities were. I wrote feature articles and independently compiled the monthly SSCN newsletter, a document which is sent out to over 800 contacts in the world of sport for development. In order to generate newsworthy pieces, I visited projects and initiatives in townships across the Province.

Sport was used as a vehicle to educate children about life-threatening diseases, health and fitness, as well as to share many other life-benefiting experiences. We worked in a number of schools and became immersed in the culture. Several local events were arranged, including two large sport tournaments in which transport and provisions were arranged for six local schools to participate. Many different techniques were learned for coaching sport and for gaining the attention of large groups. I also personally volunteered when over there to teach English in a school twice every week.
