About Peter Gallagher
I am Head of Astrophysics and Director of Dunsink Observatory at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS) and an Adjunct Professor at Trinity College Dublin. My research focuses on understanding solar activity and its impacts on Earth. I am head of the Irish LOFAR radio telescope project at Birr Castle (www.lofar.ie) and a member of numerous ESA and NASA satellite teams, including Solar Orbiter. I served on ESA's Space Science Advisory Committee for 2017-2019. Before joining DIAS, I was a Professor at Trinity College Dublin for 13 years, a Research Fellow at Owens Valley Radio Observatory and Big Bear Solar Observatory in California, and a Senior Scientist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.

Senior Professor And Head Of Astrophysics
I am Head of the Astronomy & Astrophysics Section at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies. Members of the Section undertake research on various aspects of astrophysics, including star formation, astrophysical jets, particle acceleration, high energy astrophysics, computational astrophysics, detector development and solar physics and space weather research. We are based at 31 Fitzwilliam Place in the centre of Dublin and operate Dunsink Observatory in west Dublin, mainly for public outreach purposes. The Section includes 4 Professors and approximately 10 Postdoctoral Researchers, 15 Research Students and 5 IT and Administrative Staff.
