I strive to bring security assurance to stakeholders who are adopting new technologies. As a technologist and InfoSec practitioner I have worked at the envelope of securing emerging technologies for 25+ years starting at Bellcore's Security & Fraud Group in 1995. The applied research culture of excellence that I was a part of in my formative years at Bell Communications Research (Bellcore, previously part of Bell Labs) has deeply shaped my approach to this day, whether in the lab, engaging industry fora, or helping customers. I have the privilege to work with, and lead, a growing team of exceptional subject matter experts. We “roll up our sleeves” and get fully immersed in developing attack vectors to "break" emerging technologies in order to help customers secure their infrastructure and protect their data and brand. Every engagement is driven by curiosity and enthusiasm with an insightful palindromic knowledge transfer between our team and customers! ;-)

Cto & FounderPalindrome Technologies 2005 - Sep 2024Greater New York City Area, UsPalindrome was founded to bring applied research to the cybersecurity of emerging technologies. The Company now serves Fortune 50 Companies, helping at the forefront of their most critical deployments. Palindrome has a mission to “secure emerging technologies and inspire confidence in its clients to operate securely in an insecure world”. We are an agile, growing team of true subject matter experts. Current focus is on advanced research of emerging technologies such as 5G, IoT, blockchain and AI, and applying the insights gleaned to provide enhanced cybersecurity services to leading companies in the communications sector; as well as other sectors, e.g., financial services, healthcare, etc. -
Principal Consultant & ResearcherTelcordia (Formerly Bellcore) 1995 - 2005Pioneered the development and application of cutting-edge security technologies across critical industry sectors: Financial Services: As Technical Lead of the U.S. Federal Reserve System National Incident Response Team I led the efforts to architect and design requirements for security and conducted security reviews and assessments at the network level and for 200+ applications, including the Automatic Clearing House (ACH) system that connected over 10,000 banks across the United States. Telecom & Internet: Supported the security architecture and Deep Packet Inspection product selection for British Telecom 21C network. Transportation: Provided the security design, requirements and assurance for the first extra-net virtual provide network (VPN), which was created by Ford, GM and Chrysler formed Automotive Network Exchange (ANX), connecting supply chain vendors and storage. International & National Security: I supported the ultra-high security preparation and real-time support for extreme events, including the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece

Principal Investigator & ResearcherNational Institute For Standards And Technology (Nist) 2002 - 2004Conducted security and survivability analyses of NGN/VoIP technologies including protocols and components. Develops Advanced Protection Profiles for NGNs. The product of this task is a report documenting security requirements that are used by commercial and government organizations to enforce a security policy on NGN/VoIP signaling gateways. These requirements were submitted to ATIS (Alliance for Telecommunication Industry Standards) to be used in their efforts of defining national security requirements in this area. Contributing researcher. Develop an anomaly detection capability for NGN/VoIP Signaling Gateways and study the behaviors including detection, suppression, scalability, and manageability. Designed enterprise VoIP (Voice over IP) network to study the effects of using IPSec to protect SIP signaling: study the performance, manageability, and scalability; and study the security strengths and weaknesses. This work was funded by NIST, see the link for more details.

Principal Investigator & ResearcherLaboratory For Telecommunication Science 2000 - 2004Conducted research for VoIP, which led to the development and testing of emerging protocols (e.g. SIP, STUN), actively participated in MIDCOM IETF Working Group and provided briefings to the research community and national security community, i.e. National Security Agency (NSA).

Senior Information Security Researcher & ConsultantBell Communications Research (Bellcore) 1995 - 1999Initially beginning as a performance tester for telecom network equipment being responsible for the overall quality assurance of a variety of emerging technology products in the Bell Network System, I was soon given additional responsibilities that that expanded my scope to include security and fraud for all of the Regional Bell Operating Companies (Ameritech, Bell Atlantic, Bell South, NYNEX, Pacific Bell, Southwestern Bell, and US West). Worked with various U.S. Federal Agencies (e.g., Federal Bureau of Investigation, National Security Agency, Secret Service) to support the data collection and prosecution of digital crimes. As a technical lead, achieved a “hit rate” of >90% when attempting white hat hacking. I was fortunate to work on pioneering projects, such as in the development of the world’s first vulnerability scanner (Pingware). -
Associate ResearcherTolly Group 1994 - 1995Boca Raton, Fl, UsWas brought on board to do research and performance testing on data networking products. Technologies included frame relay, token ring, ethernet, TCP/IP, IPSEC, and others. Published performance testing insights in Networking Magazine.
