As a senior in the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, I will graduate in May with a double major in Finance and Supply Chain Management. My experiences, both in my academic career and internships at BP and Tenneco Automotive, provide a strong leverageable platform from which to analyze, drive value, and optimize business performance. This summer I joined BP as a Commodity Risk Intern on the Crude Oil Bench for its 12-week Finance and Risk internship. Outside of preparing daily trade analysis, I led an initiative to recognize and report control gaps on intercompany trade deals as well as presented a pending business case to Chicago’s Head of Risk. For my final project, I designed and implemented a new Power BI dashboard that improved efficiency when allocating P&L on transfer price deals by streamlining and automating a previously manual process. Managing these projects provided a rewarding opportunity to demonstrate my capacity to quickly learn new technical information and leverage those skills on time sensitive initiatives. My BP internship provided valuable experience in the commodity trading and energy space, as well as exposure to market risk, working capital, commercial development, accounting policy, and project management. Prior to my internship at BP, I held two summer internships with Tenneco Automotive, focused on business optimization analysis, procurement, and accounting. For my capstone project, I worked with multiple operations managers and material suppliers, in several countries, to design and implement a new stocking and shipping program. This initiative analyzed demand, automated the inventory process, and decreased lead times while tracking the attributable savings. The success of this project led to my continued post-internship employment with Tenneco throughout my Junior year of school. This was a rewarding experience allowing me to practice my analytical skills while demonstrating my leadership, communication, and teamwork skills through problem solving and change management.
