About Peter Tornquist

Peter Tornquist is a composer who has had his works performed by some of the world's most prestigious orchestras, including the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and London Sinfonietta. His compositions focus on the interaction between composers and performers through live electronics and improvisation, which have helped to pioneer the development of artistic research in Norway.Tornquist is also an experienced academician, with a background in composition, electronic music, improvisation and music theory. He has been Principal of the Norwegian Academy of Music from 2013 to 2021 and Dean of YST Conservatory of Music at NUS since 2022. In recognition for his contributions to music education, he has been awarded Honorary Fellowships from both the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Northern College of Music.
