I am a independent communications consultant. My areas of expertise are health care messaging, online communications, political organizing (both national and state) and healthcare advocacy. For the past 15 years, I have worked on health care reform issues in various positions from working as Director of Health Care Policy for the presidential campaign of Governor Dean to organizing a national day of health care action for Americans for Health Care, a project of SEIU, in over thirty states and fifty cities. Most recently, I served as the National Outreach Director for The Herndon Alliance. In this role, I designed, created and ran all aspects of a Daily Healthcare Media Summary - including the collection of media coverage, writing and editing of all commentary and the creation, growth and management of the Summary’s distribution. Over time, the reach of the summary grew to a national circulation of 2,000 health care advocates. In addition to the Media Summary, I also undertook a leadership role in all aspects of Herndon’s public opinion research on health care messaging. This included meeting with partners in order to identifying messaging issues of concern, to helping to design the public opinion research tools to creating summary documents to be used by the advocacy community at large. In addition, I managed the national distribution of the research results. I provided in-person briefings to the staff members of presidential and congressional campaigns, coordinated with pro-reform organizations like AARP, SEIU, and many others, trained advocates in messaging and ran Herndon’s electronic distribution strategy.
