PROCESS ENGINEER: - Responsible for process development of the wet chemical coatings application processes for large format thin film solar panels. Tool owner for three chemical activation steps, and support for photoresist application and screen print processes. Duties included writing of detailed work instructions, tool start-up, yield improvement, meeting capacity forecasts, trouble shooting, execution of DOE experiments, process safety, material evaluations, and coating quality.• Successful start-up and implementation into production state of the art roll coater for the safe application of cadmium based chemicals that required extreme uniformity over large format glass panels. Worked with team to develop specifications, acceptance at vendor site, installation, start-up, operator and maintenance training, and certified for production operations.• Implementation of inline concentration control for highly toxic chemical application.• Led team effort to reduce NPR photo-resist flakes by process changes that completely eliminated the flakes from entering into the downstream processes.• Switched chemical source from a powder to a liquid concentrate that saved over 50% in raw material cost and reduced hazardous exposure by eliminating handling the cadmium based material in a powder form.

MEDIA DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER: Responsible for the product and manufacturing process development of the holographic data storage media relating to the substrates, AR coat, edge and center moisture barrier seals. Provided liaison between Japanese media manufacturing development partner and InPhase, developed overall media product specifications, and interfaced with research and drive engineering.• Project manager for the development of the automated bonder assembly line with Zygo Automation. Project was funded and sponsored by ATP and NIST grants. The $1M project was completed on time and within budget.• Researched, developed, and implemented into manufacturing high performance injection molded optical plastic substrates, AR coatings, and environmental barrier seals. • Led critical team effort to specify, characterize, prioritize, and document media product, manufacturing, and performance specifications.• Developed analytical protocols for material characterization and media performance (FT-NIR, Pitch Error, Under Fill, and Seal Integrity) by working with research chemists and optical engineers.• Established close vendor relations ship for joint development of materials and manufacturing capability for substrates, seal materials, device components, and packaging concepts.

SENIOR PROCESS SPECIALIST: Led the optical media DVD Process Development Team for the integrated CD/DVD replication product line. Responsibilities included process specifications for engineering design, hardware evaluation, technology selection and development, process capability benchmarking and improvement. Complete understanding of the DVD specification requirements and testing protocol was developed along with understanding how customers would use and interface with the integrated line in a production environment. Led cross-functional team that consisted of process, sputtering, electrical, software, and service engineers.• Using SPC and DOE techniques implemented a DVD process that produced DVD discs at less than 5 seconds/disc at 18,000 discs per day, improving yields from 65% to 95%, and having all measured specifications at a Cpk of 2.0 or greater.• Instituted pre-delivery set up procedure that insured process capability, performance, and a guaranteed yield. This procedure reduced the on customer site installation, set up, and customer acceptance time from 8 weeks down to 4 weeks.

Held various manufacturing and new product development positions within the Eastman Kodak Company with increasing responsibility and scope.• Promoted to direct supervision of a team that consisted of (3) engineers and (4) technicians that were responsible for the CD-R dye coat, sputtered reflective layer, and lacquer protective layer manufacturing technologies.• Managed the development, improvement, capacity through put, cost reduction, and maintenance of for the world wide production of the CD-R media. • Successful installation, training, and start-up of 40 production lines in USA, Mexico, and Ireland.• Received the Kodak “Golden Spike” award for dye utilization cost reduction project that saved over $1M per year.• Team Leader for the development of toners and developers used in the new Olympus Accent Digital Copier. Formulations, feasibility testing, optimization, scale-up, and certification for shipping approval were all provided while meeting all project goals, schedules, and budgets.• Achieved validation for three new Surecell biological diagnostic products released from research into production.
