Peter Winston graduated from Vassar and began working at Digital Equipment Corporation where he was involved in software development for PCs and workstations. Peter founded Integrated Computer Solutions (ICS) after attending the MIT X User conference in 1987, creating the first company focused on the burgeoning X community, and has been President and Chief Executive Officer of the company since its inception in December of the same year. Peter added training courses to the ICS consulting business after the ’88 X User Conference, realizing the demand for these resources in the X community. He started the X User Group after the success of the ICS training, providing needed information to the X community, and initiated the Xhibition Tradeshow, a technical tradeshow and conference that ran from 1988-1994 and grew to an audience of 10,000 people. Builder Xccessory, the flagship product for ICS, debuted in 1989. In 1992 Peter received the Inc. Magazine New England Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The second half of the nineties saw ICS add the Motif application to its offerings and expand into the user-interface development business, becoming the largest independent supplier of Motif and leading the Open Motif project team. The acquisition of Centerline in 2004 and UIMX in 2005 reinforced ICS’ commitment to support Motif developers who were still maintaining large projects, combining two powerful product lines to greatly enhance and simplify the entire software development process. As customers began talking about the benefits of Qt, ICS followed them into the market in 2002, becoming the premier service provider and supplier of Qt training by acquiring exclusive rights to resell Qt extensions and testing tools, supported by the largest independent source of Qt experts in North America. ICS’ focus is on helping people design and deliver world-class user interfaces on any platform with any toolkit.
