Hard work precedes the moment when the Mayor cuts the ribbon on a new factory or a new light rail line. Leading up to the celebration, a team of Economic Developers works to negotiate the right mix of financial incentives or to ensure that tracks and stations support the city’s development vision. As a certified Economic Developer, this is what I do best.I’ve learned through a career serving both rapidly-growing cities and severely-challenged neighborhoods that the right amount of growth in the right spots — whether generated by investing $28 Million in downtown parks and streets or by bringing 400 jobs to a struggling neighborhood — builds better communities.Many of the large-scale initiatives I’ve been a part of are true partnerships between the public and private sector. I thrive on cutting through red tape on both sides so that all that’s left to cut at the ceremony is ribbon. Many critical projects wouldn’t be possible without Economic Developers and private organizations working together toward a common goal.The best part of a 15-year career in the field is seeing the final impact of a project everyone said was impossible.
