Welcome to Empowered Mind and Body LLC. I am Dr. Petra Roesner and I am dedicated to providing high quality services for all I work with through coaching for life or coaching students in the Korean martial art of Taekwondo. My background is in social and human services. I have worked with individuals and families along the entire life-span, from helping families with young children to those who are receiving end-of-life care via multiple counseling approaches (e.g. cognitive-behavioral, family systems, parent-child interaction, trauma informed care, solution focused and grief and bereavement). I also assist students and their families to help them navigate the hurdles of manages school life through approaches that focus to improve executive and academic functioning to achieve the best outcomes, balance, harmony and empowerment. My passion is practicing and teaching Taekwondo, where the focus is not necessarily on competition, but rather on the transformative journey that can be enjoyed by students of all ages. I believe in mastery of art and teaching the values that come along with it and that benefits students of the art throughout life as they learn to overcome challenges through physical and mental empowerment.Whether I am helping you in a transformative life journey or teaching you Taekwondo, I will never view you as a client, but as my partner, helping to achieve goals through approaches that put you first. I will do so with a spirit of Aloha, as living in Hawaii for eight years has taught me wonderful approaches to life using the concepts of Ohana (family), Ha’Aponopono (to make right) and talk-story to achieve balance and harmony.

As the author of "Beyond the dojang: a phenomenological perspective on transferring the virtues of Taekwondo into daily life," and "Taekwondo, more than a martial art, a journey for life," and a Kukkiwon certified black belt, I teach the World Taekwondo style of this martial art alongside the long-held traditions and values of this art. Besides teaching students of all ages the essential elements of Taekwondo (poomsae/patterns, kicking/blocking/striking/self-defense, sparring, breaking, meditation), it is also my goal to help my students appreciate the transformative nature of being a life-long student during the journey called Taekwondo. I believe that learning Taekwondo should be more than kicking, punching or competition, it should be an experience that teaches virtues that can be applied in any life setting by any individual along the life-span.
