Sugar Hill Creamery is Harlem’s first family-owned ice cream shop since 1983. The shop’s flavors are inspired by the owners’ African American, Caribbean, and Midwestern backgrounds as well as Harlem, their neighborhood of over 15 years. Within the Art Education Department, Petrushka works with undergraduate students to be reflective artist educators who can teach in multiple settings, including schools, community centers, museums, and alternative learning sites. In the Art Department and Black Studies Departments, she works with undergraduates to provide thoughtful footing in the historic neighborhood where City College is situated, Harlem, as a means of developing a nuanced understanding and development of community engaged ways of art making.
