I led the development of automation software and hardware platforms for this start-up organisation’s innovative solutions. My key project has been the coordination and development of the TRL 5-6 prototype of a smart grids controller to attract further investment. This involved developing a comprehensive, all-in-one system that featured advanced algorithms, high-performance data acquisition, real-time control hardware, and intuitive graphical user interfaces.

I provided analysis using dynamic modeling, simulation, and control theory for troubleshooting, feasibility studies, engineer training, design, and commissioning of automation systems.Key projects included:• Celeros (SPX Flow): Automated pump testing facility with software and hardware solutions.• Mocean Energy/Wave Energy Scotland: Designed and commissioned control system for a wave energy device prototype.• Wave Energy Scotland: Conducted feasibility study for nonlinear predictive controllers for wave energy converters.• Innovate UK: Developed multi-fault detection software for control loops.• EDF Nuclear: Created and delivered training materials on control and troubleshooting for nuclear power stations.• Peelports: Assessed and recommended upgrades for control systems at Hunterston coal terminal.• Houlder Limited: Developed control system for hydraulic test rig for LNG transfer system.• Vestas/University of Aalborg/Siemens: Designed supervisory control for offshore wind farms.

In this role I developed advanced nonlinear control algorithms suitable for efficient implementation and operation in marine vessel dynamic positioning applications and high-speed surveillance devices in collaboration with Selex Galileo. I also acted as an undergraduate and postgraduate teaching assistant, produced articles and participated in conferences.

I designed, programmed, installed and maintained communications networks (Panasonic, Cisco VoIP networks) and security and CCTV systems in sites with 1000+ allocated workspaces.
