In my internship I started working on master’s project to improve accessibility of N.C. Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserves which included conducting site visits at Reserve sites and providing detailed site reviews, conducted in-depth literature review surrounding accessibility improvement for nature reserves, and conducted literature reviews to provide recommendations for accessibility improvement for Reserve sites.

I was awarded a merit-based Academic Assistantship to work 10 hours per week on a project that I had to apply and interview for. I was chosen to work in the Poulsen Ecology Lab to assist Dr. John Poulsen on elephant movement tracking in Gabon. This included working with data to track elephant movement over time using GIS to process and analyze satellite data, working with satellite data to determine key habitat areas, tracking elephant movement patterns over time, and identifying relationships between elephant movements and human settlements.

Worked as a researcher at the Center for Cetacean Research taking samples from humpback whales for DNA sampling and tracking of cetaceans in order to better understand the ecology, migratory patterns, and behavioral patterns of whales in the Pacific Ocean. Working included collecting DNA samples in the field, managing data records of sightings and data collection, digitizing data for ArcGIS, assisting with field operations

I worked under the supervision of Dr. Barbara Bollard to write a natural values report for the Northern Territory, Australia and used GIS to give to the communities in the area to better understand and manage their marine areas. Additionally, I wrote three reports and summaries for distribution and coordinating logistical elements of conservation projects. I also assisted with creating lecture materials for a courses in human geography and environmental science and taught students skills to better prepare them for essay writing, studying, and test taking.
