I was always the little girl who had an animal on her hip and a story to tell.I grew up on my family's commercial cow-calf operation in rural eastern Washington where I was frequently my Dad's sidekick as we went through daily ranch operations. I was happy to be raised on the back of a horse and was always eager to get my hands dirty. When it came time to attend college, the rule in our house was that you had to go far enough away that you didn't have to feed cows on the weekend. I spent 4 fantastic years at Cal-Poly SLO where I embraced the Learn By Doing motto, and graduated with a degree in Animal Science which would prepare me for pursuing my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from Washington State University. From a young age, I was confident that my career path would involve my two favorite things; animals and people. Veterinary medicine fit that desire perfectly. What I didn't know was a small detour in my undergraduate education due to Covid-19 would push me to a second career in agriculture advocacy and direct-to-consumer marketing. As I sat at my dinner table after returning back to the ranch in 2020, I set my organic chemistry homework to the side as I launched a ranch-to-table boxed beef business that incorporated my family's hard work and vertical integration, while providing the consumer a superior product that they felt comfortable feeding their family with.As I continue with my veterinary education at Washington State University, I still manage the day-to-day operations of The Herd and advocate for our vital cattle industry.
