I am an upcoming junior at Bryn Mawr College studying international relations and Spanish and an intern at Baltimore Council on Foreign Affairs.I’ve worked as a researcher and writer in several capacities, including student features for my college’s website, strategic communication memos, and IR analysis for both academic and lay readers. As an intern on a 4-person team at the BCFA, I organize and engage in events led by field leaders such as Stephen Rapp, former ICC war crimes prosecutor, and Richard Gowan, head of the UN’s crisis group. In addition to programming, I have been part of a council-wide initiative to expand our reach, engage donors, and streamline our thematic organization. My work includes revitalizing our forced displacement initiative through analyzing the latest global trends.In my academic life thus far, I’ve been focused on people and borders, national identity and the state. How are borders a cause and effect of conflict? How is a nation constructed? How can displacement be addressed amidst shifting, often imagined, borders and clashing conceptions of national identity? These questions have guided my interest and ongoing research in Kurdish/Turkish relations, but I find they are the foundation of my analysis on any area or conflict. I intend to continue immersing and challenging myself in the IR space, where I have already learned so much about the complex gears that turn the world and leave many behind. I hope to further engage through international NGO work and public diplomacy.
