As a full-time secondary school teacher, I have worked to create unique learning opportunities to broaden concepts and learning beyond the delivery of curriculum in the classroom. While on the Merrick teaching team, the school was honoured with the distinguished PIEoneer Award for "Secondary Learning-International Impact" (best international school in the world). Through my role as a teacher, I educate students based on Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum expectations and have garnered significant experience developing each of my courses from the ground up. I have designed and delivered content for online and in-class learning, created and evaluated assignments, completed progress and report cards for each student, and have weekly communication with each parent regarding student success. I have developed in-class and virtual classroom management skills, strengthened my ability to provide differentiated instruction to meet each individual learner’s needs, supported English Language Learners (ESL), and facilitated regular after school co-curricular activities. I am an active member of the school’s academic team, participating in weekly staff meetings and professional development opportunities. Managing student learning in accordance with the goals and directives of the schools within CDSBEO, I fulfilled the duties of a teacher when there was an absence or temporary vacancy in a school. Adapting teaching methods to meet the learning objectives of students at both the elementary and secondary level, and engaging students across a wide variety of subject matters in both French and English, I enjoyed the challenge of working with new classrooms on an on-call schedule.

Working with a small, dedicated team of seasonal staff, I was responsible for high-volume cafe service in an award-winning Italian Gelato and Coffee bar, where I oversaw food preparation, cleaning and dishes, and serving a variety of handmade gelato, panini, waffles, and coffee and tea products. Through this role, over two summers, I honed my multitasking and customer service skills, and helped create an authentic European coffeehouse experience for all visitors to this delightful cafe.

As an interpreter, I helped bring history to life for visitors to Merrickville’s Blockhouse Museum! I developed and delivered museum programming, offered tours in both French and English, and engaged with visitors looking to learn more about Merrickville, our history, local artifacts, and the Rideau Canal (Ontario’s only UNESCO Heritage Site). Dressed in historical costume, I delivered speeches at community events, and offered information about local shops and sites of interest to visitors from around the world!

As Co-Founder of the Share Your Hair Project, I worked with 27 local businesses to collect 1000 pounds of hair and fur to be used in the BP oil spill clean up efforts. I have experience speaking with local schools and groups about oil spill clean up and environmental stewardship while encouraging youth to become agents of environmental change. As Co-Founder of the Show We CAN Lend A Hand Project, I worked with local businesses and community members to collect 1000 pounds of aluminum cans (33,000 cans) for Habitat for Humanity to help build a house for a local family in need.

For a period of 5 weeks, I served Ontario’s Members of Provincial Parliament in the Legislative Assembly at Queen’s Park. Here I developed a greater understanding of Ontario’s political system and processes, and participated in a number of educational activities and programming. My duties included delivering documents, bills and petitions to the Speaker of the House, the Clerks and the MPPs, readying the House for Question Period, carrying messages and reports to Hansard, keeping up with school work and having lunch with MPPs and other dignitaries (Lieutenant Governor, Premier of Ontario, Speaker, Head Clerk) while maintaining a professional, non-partisan attitude.
