When I was 9 years old, my dad had a bring your family to work day at Proctor & Gamble. I was fascinated by the plant and the main thing that caught my interest was the robots that they had automating the assembly line work. Ever since then my mind has been set on becoming a chemical engineer like him. As I am approaching my first co-op, I am becoming more eager by the day to gain experience relevant to my major and actually get out in the world and do some engineering. Throughout school and work I have worked on many projects individually or as part of a team. I think having these experiences and being able to work well in both of these situations is a valuable trait of mine. Both of my projects in my intro to engineering class were team-based projects and we found that the most effective way to handle these was to give people tasks based on their strengths. I also have experience talking to customers in the workplace. There have been multiple times where there has been a customer complaint or question that I was tasked with handling. Due to this I became better at thinking on my feet and communicating in an understandable but appropriate tone. I also have beginner experience in multiple coding languages and how to apply them to an engineering situation. These include python, MATLAB, and VBA Excel Macros. Coding is very enjoyable and there is no better feeling than finishing a code and having it work perfectly. I think one of my strongest traits is being "coachable". I never realized it until high school baseball, but I am very good at taking constructive criticism and applying it to everything I do. It helps me avoid making the same mistake twice which is very beneficial as that can waste large amounts of time. I also enjoy traveling and I have done a decent amount of it, mostly inside of the US. It is so mind-blowing how different cultures can be even just a few states apart. I am always eager to try new things and learn about different people so traveling is always a blast.
