In December 2023 I was given the opportunity to work as an intern for Wayne Brothers during my Christmas break. I was sent to work with their structural group on their NUCOR Lexington site. While there, I spent the majority of my time in the field working with a crew and learning all things rebar and structural concrete. Towards the end of the internship I was able to spend time alongside the project engineers and project manager to learn what goes on behind the scenes from a managerial perspective. At the end of my designated internship I was blessed with the opportunity to continue interning for them in a hybrid format, meaning that I come onsite for a couple of days every other week and work virtually from school. I have been able to complete activities that mimic what I would be doing on a daily basis as an assistant PE as well as spend more time on site.

Over the last year and a half I have gotten the opportunity to work part time for Clean-Cut Tree service. During my time here I have learned how important attention to detail is as well as the ability to effectively work as a group. All trees are different and therefore require a different plan of action, which is why strategic planning is very important as well. Although my time in the tree service is short I have learned many new skills that will help me after college as I pursue a career.

From the spring of 2019 until summer 2021 I worked as a ranch hand for a local beef cattle ranch in my hometown in North Carolina. This job was full of a wide variety of tasks and was very labor-intensive. I gained a lot of experience in working with cattle and heavy equipment in my time there. A lot of the skills and characteristics that I built while working there can be carried over into many different jobs, such as hard work and adaptability.
