I was brought in to develop the technology strategy to enable Capital One to recreate banking in the digital age, including migration to the cloud with a focus on DevOps, streaming data and machine learning. Additionally, I was charged with establishing a strategic advantage through emerging technology like blockchain, a nascent opportunity for Capital One. I was responsible for creating frameworks to enhance operational efficiency, including build vs. buy frameworks, commercialization of technology processes, and engineering efficiency scorecards, and I managed 700 employees and a $60M budget.I created a technology strategy, developing a roadmap of goals in partnership with other leaders, while also optimizing over $50M in costs. Additionally, I developed a Technology Commercialization program to create revenue opportunity from internally built software products, and formed Emerging Technology teams focusing on blockchain applications and other nascent technologies that have the potential to disrupt businesses. Stabilized and empowered Bay Area teams by creating a unified footprint in San Francisco with over 800 people, driving an enterprise shift from the Bay Area as developers were added to East coast teams to create fully independent San Francisco teams. This increased NPS scores by 20% and efficiency of teams by 25% in the first year. In addition, I served as Accountable Executive for the Bay Area LGBTQ Affiliate Program and part of the D&I corporate leadership team.

OnDeck recruited me to lead the technology scale, product launches and technology investment pitches resulting in the largest New York venture capital-backed exit at that time, at $1.32B. I managed 250 employees and a $30M budget, and drove products and partnerships resulting in 360% revenue gains, to $250B.I led the build out of OnDeck technology, including developing the technology strategy, product vision and architectural north star using data streaming and ML services for dynamic, intelligent interactions with customers and growing the technology organization by 400%. I developed a successful operation by maturing talent, increasing diversity by 28% and stabilizing and streamlining technology operations. Time to market was reduced weeks to hours while I reduced customer issues by 80%. I was able to harness organizational growth by spearheading enterprise Agile planning and product-focused teams ensuring nimbleness, team ownership and accountability.By building out the cybersecurity program, systems and Technology Risk Council to achieve public security standards and certifications, I helped enable OnDeck to IPO in 2014 and partner with banks in 2016. I significantly reduced risk and translated difficult cyber concepts to meaningful threat and investment options for the board and executive team.

2008 – Feb 2014 As part of the Bill Me Later acquisition, I led the PayPal Credit Underwriting and Global Credit expansion, including strategic planning, leading site development, growing 300 engineers in six months and building credit products for three new countries. I managed a $20M budget and led the Berlin-based technology acquisition resulting in the first EU credit product with pluggable PayPal credit processing backend.I led the optimization of PayPal credit transactions to sub-200 milliseconds, enabling direct competition with credit cards. Under my leadership, operating costs were reduced by 30% ($5M), time to market by 80%, and downtime by 50%. In addition, I drove the early evolution of German credit, which led to the expansion of credit across Europe and Australia, and I created the Technology Business Dashboard to understand the health of the systems, operating costs, customer impact and opportunities and risks.

In this role, I helped grow the Bill Me Later platform, one of the first online real-time business lending and payments proprietary payment products and methods offered on the websites of many well-known merchants, including Wal-Mart, Home Depot, USPS, Best Buy and many others, offering consumers a line of revolving credit online without using a credit card. As one of four engineers of the first online credit and payment system, I developed processes, managed 50 employees and a $10M budget.I led the architecture and development of the Bill Me Later business, supporting $4B+ in TPV and becoming one of the largest revenue generators in PayPal annually. In addition, I architected automated payments and the reconciliation framework for early warning and partial self-healing systems, reducing the error rate by 40%.By creating content a delivery system through Akamai for marketing ownership of content changes in minutes, I enabled higher engagement with customers.
