Pez Zarifian is a Systems Engineering @ Applied Intuition at Applied Intuition. They possess expertise in spacecraft, space systems, systems engineering, aerospace, matlab and 18 more skills. Colleagues describe them as "Pez is a detail-oriented leader who makes sure all voices are heard and asks meaningful questions to facilitate technical conversations. Pez's knowledge and execution of systems engineering and safety engineering as applied to automated driving systems were invaluable to our organization. I appreciated working closely with Pez when tackling complex topics concerning automated vehicle safety. One standout ability is how Pez is concise and clear when making conclusions and actionable next steps. No small detail is missed with Pez. I hope to have the opportunity to connect again with Pez in the AV technology space!", "Pez and I worked together at Woven Planet (subsidiary of Toyota working on self-driving technology). He is one of the best System Engineers I have ever worked with. He understands technology, product requirements, digs deep into system architecture to come up with the most viable solution for any given task. He excels at systematically balancing a ground-up understanding with a big picture view. And most importantly, he is very strong at defining new products based on data. He is a strong SE partner for any product manager who needs to deliver results in a fast-changing product space dependent on noisy data. Above all, he is a gem to work with. I would jump at an opportunity to work with him in the future!", and "It was a pleasure working with Pez at TRI and Woven Planet. He is sharp and focused. His experience in System Engineering was key to the success of the Autonomy program at Toyota. Pez is a customer-first system engineering practitioner and leader. He works relentlessly with stakeholders to build safe and innovative products that fits the customer's needs. Pez is also a very thoughtful leader and manager. Moreover, his communication skills were a great asset in facilitating team discussions and making his ideas more impactful."

Systems EngineerJet Propulsion Laboratory Oct 2009 - Jul 2018Pasadena, Ca, UsDuring my time at NASA-JPL, I served on a number of projects as the lead or supporting Systems Engineer across the various phases of the project lifecycle.Formulation - I worked in JPL's concurrent design team, Team X, for over over 5 years. During this period I contributed to more than 100 concept design sessions, contributed to the refine of the Team X's processes, and developed subsystem design tools, as well as the catalog of commercial-off-the-shelf satellites. During my last two years with Team X, I was the lead engineer for Team Xc, the concurrent design team dedicated to CubeSats and small satellites. I also served as the manager and Systems Engineer for a number of NASA and DARPA proposals ranging from HOPE4, Weather Satellite Follow-On Activities (WSFA), Earth Venture Instrument, and DARPA F6, to Step 2 Discovery and step 1 New Frontier's proposals.Implementation - I started my career at JPL with the development of the Phaeton Mast Dynamic’s (PMD’s) data acquisition software and EGSE used for the calibration and TVAC tests of the flight hardware. Soon after I designed and developed the ground system data acquisition LabView program for the Phaeton ASTRA mission. I also led the development of numerous technology maturation efforts at JPL, including controllable solid state propellant testing and CMOS detector thermal systems.Operations - I served as the deployment systems engineer on NASA’s latest Mars lander, InSight, leading the planning and performing of test activities with the lander engineering model, performing analyses based on test data, validating and verifying requirements, coordinating the science and engineering team on instrument deployment site requirements, creating operations strategies and go/no-go decisions based on critical post-landing mission events, and end-to-end technical and logistical planning for the deployment of scientific instruments on the surface of Mars. -
