Installed and provided support for systems, storage devices, and system equipment, including installation planning, selection of location, power orders, network connectivity, and fiber connections to SAN, TAN, and phone or modem connectivity. Held responsibility for TAN maintenance, including fiber connections from switches to servers, tape and virtual tape libraries, zoning, switch updates, and coordination with IBM for tape library updates and upgrades. Upgraded firmware and microcode for IBM servers and IBM HMC servers; performed monthly, as well as ad hoc HMC backups, successfully recovering HMCs after system crashes. Collaborated with system administrator and SAN group, expediting connectivity to SAN islands in computer room, and ran fiber from switches to servers and storage devices, performing troubleshooting processes on fiber cables, GBICs and HBAs. Maintained detailed information on devices on TAN, switch, server, and library information, and updated smaller storage system updates, including IBM DS6000, FastT, and NAS. Facilitated resolution procedures for hardware problems, coordinating with vendors and fixing issues; performed FastT installations and upgrades at store sites, and system and firmware updates on devices. Served on pager rotation, covering hardware problems on demand, including weekend and after-hour problem resolution; troubleshot hardware issues, working with system administrators, vendors, and users-resolving issues with minimal impact.Acted as first respondent to hardware problems on equipment, including: IBM AIX and SUN Servers, IBM mainframe tape drives, and AS/400 servers-saving millions of dollars per year in maintenance fees. Directed system re-hosting projects, requiring new fiber and network connections; ensured complete cabling and attachment, resulting in flawless transitions.

Acted as first LAN administrator for operations, responsible for three groups, including administration and desktop. Loaded desktops and set up local e-mail prior to corporate standardization of Lotus Notes. Performed daily backups of LAN and e-mail. Served as project lead, acquiring new security card system for MTP building, and other locations. Provided TCP/IP installations on desktops, and installed Lotus Notes on MTP desktops-keeping track of assigned IPs, prior to integration of DHCP.

Managed seven people, and held responsibility for ensuring completion of job processing, as scheduled. Performed maintenance for MVS, VM, and TCP systems, as well as AS/400 systems. Collaborated with operations analysts, programmers, and database administrators, facilitating completion of abandoned jobs. Participated in disaster recovery tests and upgraded JCL as the technology advanced from 3420, to 3480, to 3490 tape drives. Communicated with programmers and managers, creating and implementing new jobs. Installed new equipment, including DASD, bus/tag cables and EPO cables, printers, and new CPU cabling.
