Business Owner
Dunn Jewellery was my second foray into running a business, and my first as a sole trader. Running the business required my handling of a diverse range of tasks:• Day to day administration and bookkeeping• Communications with customers• Tracking and managing orders received• Creating and processing invoices• Tracking and maintaining stocks of raw materials, consumables and tools• Filing tax returns• Digital marketing and SEO• Design and manufacture of jewelry• Researching market trends• Creating and maintaining a workshop and office• Maintenance and troubleshooting of IT systemsAfter dissolving the Leaky Crucible business partnership in July of 2018, I relocated to Kent and started to establish a new business. By agreement with my former business partner, neither of us retained the rights to continue trading under the name the Leaky Crucible, and neither of us would continue to use any existing branding. This left me with a tough choice as to whether to rush to launch for the 2018 holiday season with less than three months of preparation, or whether to go for a more gradual launch, and write off the holiday season’s sales in favor of spending more time developing the brand and planning.I opted to launch straight away as soon as I had the barebones framework of a new brand established. Despite having to start almost from scratch in terms of marketing and branding, I was able to grow the business rapidly, to the point where I took over $7,900 in revenue over the 2018 holiday period (11/01/2018 to 12/31/2018), only 2% lower than the revenue for the equivalent period of 2017 for the Leaky Crucible, which had been achieved after having spent several years growing that brand. When I shut down the business in January of 2022 I had made in excess of 1,700 sales, maintaining a solid 5 star customer satisfaction rating on all sales platforms, and consistently being acclaimed as a Star Seller on Etsy.
Business Partner
I formed this business in 2014 alongside an aspiring blacksmith. Our goal was to create a business that allowed us to combine our passions and skills and work for ourselves. I had sole responsibility for the jewelry side of the business, and assisted with various aspects of the blacksmithing side. My role in the business was:• Day to day administration and bookkeeping• Communications with customers• Tracking and managing orders received• Creating and processing invoices• Tracking and maintaining stocks of raw materials, consumables and tools• Filing tax returns• Digital marketing and SEO• Website design and management• Creating and pitching proposals to potential clients• Design and manufacture of jewelry• Maintenance and troubleshooting of IT systemsMy business partner was undertaking training as a blacksmith and while he theoretically had oversight over the running of the business, in practice he focused on developing his practical skills, leaving administration of the business in my hands. I also assisted him with design, and created pitch documents for his prospective blacksmithing customers with his oversight. The business grew to the point that we took over $8,000 in revenue through the jewelry side of the business over the 2017 holiday period (11/01/2017 to 12/31/2017). After several years of successful trading together, we realized that our long term goals were different and agreed to end the partnership in July of 2018.

In my role at Go Plant Ltd, I was an Administration Assistant in the office of Go Plant Ltd’s Mill Hill vehicle maintenance depot. Go Plant Ltd had the vehicle maintenance contract for the London Borough of Barnet’s fleet. My role at the Mill Hill depot was:• Creating and maintaining records of vehicle maintenance using Fleetwave fleet management system• Creating and maintaining physical records• In charge of tire callouts and dealing with tire companies.• Dealing with both public & private sector customers.• Processing and matching invoices.• Answering phones & booking MOT vehicle tests for private customers• Creating charts, forms & servicing sheets in Microsoft Word & Excel.• Receptionist duties• Data entry of job cards from maintenance technicians

My main role was one of planning and organization, and with my help we held several successful camping weekends, the last of which in my tenure was attended by around 40 people. Green Cloaks has since grown further, and now regularly sees attendance in the range of 100-200 people per event. My responsibilities as Vice Chair were:• Organizing meet-ups at large events (Expos)• Planning activities for our own weekend events• Defining procedures to ensure the smooth running of our events• Assigning responsibilities to other group members• Keeping our events running close to plan• Internal crisis management
