Paul Hughes is an experienced Non-Executive Director who has held leadership positions in government and industry sectors.With over 25 years’ experience as a Non-Executive Director of Unlisted Public Companies, NFP’s and government organisations I have developed a range of specialised skill sets including Governance, Risk, Strategy Development, Stakeholder Relations and Finance. Similarly, various board committee memberships relied on these skills, in particular my financial and accounting qualifications. My leadership roles span over 30 years, with 20 years in local government senior management, ranging from Community and Recreation Services to Corporate and Business Services. An acumen for business development led to 10 years as CEO of Newcastle Airport leading its evolution as a major regional economic driver providing excellent shareholder returns, significantly enhanced access and connectivity through the ongoing development of a well-regarded, vital community asset.I have had extensive dealings with all levels of Government. This includes participating in a number of local, state and Commonwealth government reviews and committees. In addition to my NED roles I have provided consultancy services to various tourism, government, wine industry and aviation clients.In parallel with my career I have maintained a strong interest in community development from fund raising activities to membership of various community and sporting bodies, often in executive roles.I am a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD).
