Leading an organization of several managers and around 30 engineers working on Web-based video players and SDKs, Android and iOS native player platform SDKs, back-end services/APIs to support them. Dotted line relationships to Roku SDK and unannounced new software projects. Heavily involved in planning and strategic design decisions for large initiatives.I've been acting as the primary steward of the open source Video.js project, the longest running and most popular full-featured video player used on the Web. Over 38,000 stars on GitHub.In recent years, I've been the primary leader for Brightcove's internal developer events: our annual Hack Week, wherein all 150+ engineers take a week away from their daily work to build innovative new features or proofs-of-concept, fix long-standing bugs, or address their pet issues that weren't otherwise being prioritized!Also, I run our monthly Show & Tell event, which gives engineers a low pressure, informal opportunity to share whatever they're passionate or excited about - solutions, interesting bugs, new tools, and so on!

During this time, I led the player platform team.We were responsible for a wide range of Brightcove Player concerns including the popular, open source Video.js library and other core libraries and plugins (both open and closed source), performance, analytics, advertising, interactions with Video Cloud APIs, UI components of the player, and more.Besides development responsibilities, as Product Owner for the player platform team, I was responsible for keeping the team organized and on track. This involves quarterly planning, running weekly and monthly team meetings, and reporting status of commitments to management and the product organization.In addition, I was been active in the wider players teams and engineering organization, evangelizing best practices and speaking at local meetups and Brightcove's annual PLAY conference.

Worked on building out the technology used by the 2016 Hillary Clinton campaign.- Built an administrative dashboard, which the campaign could use to manage large amounts of data.- Provided hiring support and interviewed candidates for the campaign's nascent tech team.- Participated in launching the campaign and the day of Clinton's official announcement.- Helped out with development of the hillaryclinton.com website as needed.

Rebuilt the JavaScript-driven interface for Kindling's flagship product from the ground up. Introduced a structured architecture for greater flexibility/maintainability. Introduced coding standards and best practices, documentation, and unit testing to the front-end development process.Used Backbone as the primary JavaScript library to take advantage of a rebuilt RESTful API for Kindling 3.0 (and on). Wrote what amounted to a framework on top of Backbone and built support into the front-end for l10n/i18n.Created a detailed deployment process for front-end assets which was a combination of bash scripts, Node, and Compass/Sass.Used libraries including: Backbone, RequireJS, Underscore, jQuery, Handlebars, Socket.io, Video.js.

During some semesters in this timeframe, I taught a beginning front-end development course for students studying Design and Technology at Parsons The New School for Design.

A travel/vacation rental startup I joined to lead a re-engineering of the front-end codebase. Unfortunately, the company shut down not long after I joined.It has since been re-launched as a different company/product.

I worked with HUGE on a redesign of Under Armour's e-commerce website.

Worked primarily on a massive UI design, usability, and performance overhaul of the Meetup Everywhere platform. Improved many performance metrics, such as reducing the time to DOMContentLoaded by over 50% while reducing overall file sizes and HTTP requests.

Was lead front-end developer on many demanding projects including History.com and Cellular South. Worked as a developer on many projects for clients including Pepsi, A&E Television Networks, Broadway.com, National Association of Realtors, Nutrisystem, Warner Music Group.Contributed to internal knowledge and team building efforts as well as taking an active role in recruiting and interviewing front-end developer candidates.

Designed and coded web interfaces in HTML/CSS and JavaScript. Drove adoption of web standards compliance across the corporate family of websites and created a toolkit to aid subsidiary companies in developing more accessible, standards-compliant websites.Built and managed corporate websites and intranet with several content management systems. Developed custom PHP/MySQL web applications for mini-sites and customer service portals.
