Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” As an educator and trainer, I serve by this motto.Too many people live their life in fear of what might go wrong, rather than embracing all that might go right. Through my advising, teaching and training, I strive to inspire and motivate learners to take the first step. Learn that new skill, take that course, or make a plan towards that goal. Dream big and take action! I have served in secondary and post-secondary education, as a recruiter, advisor, teacher, trainer, and administrator, as well as in conference planning and presenting.

Dean Of The College AcademyHuntsville City Schools Jun 2019 - Nov 2019Huntsville, Alabama AreaIn this role I oversaw the daily operations of the College Academy at Jemison High School, a school within a school. This included posting attendance, grades, and overseeing discipline for CA. In addition, I taught the College Academy Prep course for each cohort, preparing and delivering lessons and making arrangements for additional supports through the Cap and Gown Project and University of Alabama at Huntsville Student Success Center and Undergraduate Research. Further, I served as liaison between JHS and UAH to facilitate a program of quality teaching, curriculum and support services. My greatest accomplishments in this role were strengthening the relationship between JHS and UAH, creating ease for students and families, and developing a strong, nurturing relationship with CA students. These accomplishments were evidenced through the conversations and emails with JHS and UAH faculty and staff, parents and students. Some of the most touching words came from students, one saying "I felt close to her as if she were my mom." Another commented about it being painful that I was leaving, but that "I know we can get through it because she believes in us." Creating this sort of impact in such a short amount of time demonstrates my ability to pay attention to details that matter and foster a responsive, professional, yet caring, environment. -
Pltw Engineering TeacherHuntsville City Schools Jul 2017 - Jun 2019Huntsville, Alabama AreaAt Columbia High School I served as a Project Lead the Way Engineering Teacher and Greenpower Coach and Teacher. For PLTW, I completed Core Training in Introduction to Engineering Design and Principles of Engineering to earn credentials in both. For Greenpower, I completed district offered training and learned in the role, initially as a coach, then as a teacher and coach. For both I prepared and carried out problem-based lesson plans to engage students in hands-on learning of the content. One of my greatest accomplishments in this role was the development and growth of our Greenpower team. Greenpower USA provides students the opportunity to design, build and race a single seat electric powered race car. During our first year, with only five members, we earned "F24 Advanced Best Newcomer." In our second year, we doubled in participation, with ten members and a fully operational team structure. This enabled us to begin fundraising and modify our car, overall becoming more competitive. -
Testing CoordinatorSchool District Of Manatee County Jan 2016 - 2017Bradenton, FlAs the testing coordinator at a school site, I facilitated the administration of district- and state-mandated testing and assisted with other school-wide assessments. This position was a true test in communication, planning, organizational, time and stress management skills. To achieve such an undertaking at a school truly takes a village, and I was lucky to have been welcomed into this family of a school to make it through my first testing season. With state-mandated testing, schools must test at least 95% of all students, otherwise school grade is affected. However, our principal held us to an even higher standard of 97%. To accomplish this, for each different test we must identify who must test and develop a plan to make it happen, from where and when they will test, to who will administer the test and who will cover classrooms if teachers are administering. The plan must be communicated out to the entire school and test administrators must be trained. There are many moving pieces to making this all happen that you do not understand and appreciate until you do it! Coordinator Of First Year ProgramsUniversity Of South Florida Sep 2015 - Dec 2015Tampa/St. Petersburg, Florida AreaI began transitioning into this temporary position officially on June 5, 2015 as Compass, the First Year Experience Program, was being created and the TRiO Student Support Services grant was ending. Thus, I initially served in both roles from June 5-August 31, 2015. As the Coordinator of First Year Programs, I oversaw programming and communications for freshmen. Regarding programming, I planned activities, workshops and Learning Journeys geared specifically towards freshmen. I either personally facilitated these or coordinated with offices across campus, depending on the topic. Learning Journeys are faculty led activities that provide freshmen with the opportunity to get to know them and more about their work and research outside of the typical classroom setting. Communications included, but were not limited to, management of the Compass website, Compass Facebook page, Class of 2019 portal within PeteSync (OrgSync), and individual and group emailing. I also continued to supervise a student organization, Club TRiO S4, which was focused on volunteering and community service. -
Advisor, Trio Student Support ServicesUniversity Of South Florida Mar 2014 - Aug 2015St. Petersburg, FlEveryday in this position I was able to work with a group of students near and dear to my heart. Being a first-generation student myself, I am so grateful that I got to be a part of these students' journey. They inspired and motivated me on a daily basis. I provided individual and group advising for program participants (first-generation and/or low-income undergraduate students). To assist in my advising, I communicated with faculty through our early alert system. I also coordinated and conducted social and cultural events, as well as workshops on a variety of topics to enhance students' academic performance. These ranged from creative study skills, to stress management, to academic advising. A highlight of my week was co-instructing a section of the University Success class designated for TRiO SSS students. It was a joy to integrate creativity and creative problem solving into this course. As the advisor of club TRiO S4, I had the pleasure of watching the club grow into an active volunteer and community service driven organization. I played an active role in the selection of program participants, as well as the selection, training and supervision of student workers. As we were a grant funded program, I assisted in the preparation and maintenance of program documentation, assessments and reports. **This was a grant funded position, and I served in it until the grant expired.**Conferences while in this role:-2015 Creative Problem Solving Institute, Buffalo, NY, PRESENTER-2015 Florida Creativity Weekend, Sarasota, FL, PRESENTER-2015 American College Personnel Association Annual Convention, Tampa, FL, PRESENTER -2014 Florida College Access Network Summit, Tampa, FL-2014 Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) Annual Conference, Washington, DC-2014 Southern Association for Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (SAEOPP) Priority 3 Training, New Orleans, LA-2014 Creative Problem Solving Institute, Buffalo, NY -
