Phan Thuc Anh is a Director of Technology Strategy, PropertyGuru Group at PropertyGuru Group. She has created in her regional team both a very strong engineering capability (that supports some core architecture and key products for Ansarada), and one that in its DNA is customer-focussed. Anh sets and enforces high standards – the Ansarada office is seen as an aspirational place to work in Saigon and hard to get into. Anh’s focus on hiring and performance management has ensured that over the years the standard has continued to rise. This was most marked in 2018 as we went through a period of scaling – Anh was both committed to hiring fast but forceful in ensuring the standards never fell – better to hire slower but hire right. Anh is prepared to respectfully and clearly challenge – both myself and other leaders - to be focussed on a few goals and not too many, and for clarity of intended outcome. This courage has been invaluable because we all need such feedback from our team to ensure we steer things right. I saw Anh grow her capabilities in 2018 and 2019 until it became natural to promote her to regional VP to reflect the following: [1] Anh had always worked well with Product – but the engagement and understanding with Product Strategy was deepening further – to the degree that I’d expect from a senior leader [2] Anh had always grown team-leaders – but we were now seeing the fruits of this and some of those team-leaders able to lead groups – she was growing people who could be development managers in her stead [3] Anh was not just implementing strategic change in engineering, she was initiating it and driving it through – this is a mark of a senior leader [4] As I picked up a wider role leading Product, Anh increasingly operated globally – her and the other VP for Sydney together led Engineering and allowed me to be a lot more hands off - Anh reported directly to the senior leadership team on progress in monthly meetings, taking them through key metrics and progress. [5] Anh's commercial awareness deepened as she assisted me in driving through commonality in SLAs, and reviewing contracts for operational viability, and driving through the measurement processes for this SLA in collaboration with other teams (e.g. customer service, QA and DevOps). In summary Anh both grows people and causes customer-focussed execution in engineering teams. She is a great leader and I look forward to seeing her career grow further."
