Preston A. Hawkins, Shareholder in the Knoxville office of Lewis, Thomason, King, Krieg & Waldrop, concentrates his practice in construction litigation, general commercial and tort litigation, and appellate advocacy. Mr. Hawkins has been lead trial counsel and successfully defended contractors, designers, and owners in various construction litigation matters. Mr. Hawkins has also represented business entities in various State and Federal courts in Tennessee and has obtained summary judgment on behalf of several corporate clients in state court cases.In one of his cases, Mr. Hawkins’ defendant client offered a significant six figure settlement to the plaintiffs in an alleged blasting damage case. The offer was refused and Mr. Hawkins tried the case and convinced a 12-person jury to exonerate his contractor client from all liability. Mr. Hawkins also participated as co-counsel for the plaintiffs in an arbitration hearing that resulted in an approximately $500,000 award for the firm’s clients in a construction defect case.Mr. Hawkins is a member of the American Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, and the Knoxville Bar Association. He has presented and spoken at several seminars to attorneys and clients on issues related to construction litigation and alternative dispute resolution.Prior to beginning his law practice, Mr. Hawkins served one year as law clerk for the Honorable William M. Barker of the Tennessee Supreme Court. Mr. Hawkins graduated from the Tennessee College of Law in 2002 cum laude. During law school, Mr. Hawkins was a National Champion in the Dean Jerome Prince Evidence Moot Court Competition in Brooklyn, New York. In addition, Mr. Hawkins received the McClung Medal for Moot Court excellence, served as Student Materials Editor for the Tennessee Law Review, and was elected to the Order of Barristers.
