Voter Engagement Director
My primary role is planning and executing creative and engaging efforts towards voter engagement and education in AAPI communities. Projects include leading NCAAT’s statewide voter registration programs such as organizing drives at community events and college campuses, the phone banking program, managing field organizers and canvassers across NC and training voter engagement volunteers.I'm grateful to be working with NCAAT, especially in the wake of COVID-19. Community engagement and solidarity have always been important, but now more than ever, I'm excited to join this team as we explore new ways to utilize collective strengths to uplift one another and share resources during these difficult times.
Event Curator
CurrentStarting with DIY house concerts and "parties for good" for students, growing to larger-scale public fundraisers, and eventually working up to a small music festival, I've been planning community events for most of my adult life. My focus is bringing people together from different walks of life and talent sets, to create a platform for collaboration in the Triangle. In addition to working with teams to curate my own events, I've also worked on crews for larger efforts like Hopscotch Music Festival, where I coordinated and staged VIP areas.
Event Coordinator
As Imurj Artist Cafe's event coordinator and talent buyer, I manage community relations, develop and monitor project strategies, and collaborate with my team to generate high revenue events. I maintain precise, consistent communication with our team and patrons, and strive to deliver upon the unique needs of our varying events and diverse clientele.
Chief Of Staff
I oversaw the Zainab4Raleigh campaign to ensure resources were allocated effectively throughout the city council election cycle, with a focus on building community engagement in the voting process. As a team, our fundamental goal was to encourage young people and disenfranchised communities to engage in the city-level voting process, as we look forward to seeing a city council that is truly supportive and representative of all its citizens rather than a privileged few.My role involved day-to-day operational support and project management, recruitment and training to build up our staff, coordination between campaign staff and candidate, budgeting, event preparation, and team coordination. Communication, and maintaining a cross-functional, big picture vision of the campaign were the most important elements of my position. I identified areas of focus and strategic priorities, provided direction on time management for the candidate and team members, and monitored communications and information flow in and out of the campaign. Additionally, I wrote many of our campaign messages and writings, including speeches, responses to current events and questionnaires, policy analyses, and web content.
Clinical Data Abstractor
I collaborated with research coordinators to ensure that source records provided by clinical sites were complete and accurate, used data abstraction guidelines to update records in EDC, and provided feedback on policy and procedures to limit data omissions and errors.
Communications Assistant
MEDIC is a nonprofit that was founded by a group of NC State students. By connecting teams of students with medical innovators, our organization will foster the creation of life-saving medical products while training the next leaders of the industry. As a communications intern, I manage MEDIC's website and social media platforms to increase visibility in the medical device industry.
Oak City Move Talk Show Host
With interviews, live musical performances, and discussions of current events, the Oak City Move aims to inspire positive change in NC with a solutions journalism approach. OCM is a weekly program held on WKNC 88.1FM, and is hosted by Sara Darwish, Kaanchee Gandhi, and me.This podcast was born of frustration with the tendency of major news outlets to report on issues without presenting potential solutions, and with the lack of minority representation in the media. We offer a platform to changemakers and artists in NC to share their work, and hope to inspire listeners to get involved in their communities. As a host of OCM, I curate engaging programming for a diverse audience to address local issues and solutions, and run live interviews with influencers from all over NC. I also write, record, edit, and distribute solutions-based podcast stories and reportsFour months after its initial airing, OCM won the 2017 Challenge the Process Wolfpack Leadership award through NC State's Center for Student Leadership, Ethics and Public Service.
Local Band Local Beer Coordinator
Each week I coordinated with and interviewed artists and local business owners on-air. As an interviewer and DJ, I have learned to think on my feet and multitask, to keep topics focused, and to engage guests with relevant and interesting questions. Hosting and introducing musicians at weekly Local Band Local Beer events has helped me to hone my public speaking skills. Management of social media outlets to promote growth of our program is also key. More info about LBLB can be found at facebook.com/local-band-local-beer
Promotions Director
As promotions director, I developed relationships with on and off-campus organizations to promote station visibility and community outreach. Additionally, I managed social media outlets to improve station visibility by gaining followers. To ensure quality and consistent messaging of our blog, I edited all written pieces submitted by our volunteer DJs. During events, I supervised staff and volunteers, and coordinated marketing and outreach efforts.
Founder
The Good Club is a student organization at NC State that fosters an open, fun community dedicated to helping students live happy, healthy lifestyles.Creating and running this group pushed my organization and leadership skills to a new level. From forming and overseeing a student board, to planning new health-focused events nearly every week, the work I did as President was challenging and rewarding. We were able to raise several thousand dollars for various local nonprofits in our first year through various fundraising events, recruited over 200 members within the first two weeks of our start, and were nominated for a Student Lead Award: Best New Student Organization. Most importantly, we provided a space for students to learn, grow, and connect with people they may have never met otherwise.
Capacity Planning Intern
As a part of the Integrated Planning department within CLS (Customer Logistics Services), I contributed to company cohesion through compilation and analysis of supply chain data. Using information provided by various manufacturing plants, I put together capacity summaries which included pertinent production data for each facility. I then used this data to analyze trends in demand, production, and efficiency over a range of years for each facility. This information will continue to be used by leadership to determine direction for future plans including (but not limited to) marketing, growth, and innovation. As I spent most of the internship working from home, I learned how to effectively collaborate with colleagues remotely, and to stay productive outside of the office. At the end of the summer, I travelled to Michigan and presented my projects at the Final Showcase. On top of the technical skills I learned during my internship, I got to work and build relationships with some amazing individuals at Kellogg.
Outdoor Adventures Trip Leader
While leading trips for Outdoor Adventures, I planned and implemented recreational trips for university students. This involved creating lessons on environmental stewardship, preparing equipment, facilitating practical skills workshops, and risk management. In addition to administration, I was able to provide leadership and direction to trip participants in group development and personal growth. While outdoor adventures are fun, I also used the trips as a tool to help participants challenge themselves, learn more about diversity and social justice, and foster a greater sense of appreciation for the environment.
Manufacturing Intern
During my first internship with Kellogg, I worked at a manufacturing facility. My duties included auditing manufacturing lines and working with front line team members to create new SOPs for proper training and documentation in packaging areas. In the offices, I gathered, organized, and analyzed data to streamline quality and food safety processes. During my time here, I further developed an understanding of effective leadership and communication skills in both a manufacturing environment and corporate setting through involvement in ongoing projects with the Cary Bakery and Kellogg HQ.
