About Phil Bodman

I have a background in economics teaching and research, specialising in macroeconomics, applied econometrics and labour economics and was the Associate Dean (Academic) in UQ's Faculty of Business, Economics and Law from September 2011 to December 2017. In 2017 I won the University’s Award for Excellence in Leadership and in 2018 I was promoted to full Professor and to the newly created role of Deputy Executive Dean. At the end of 2020 I have accepted a voluntary separation agreement with UQ and have been honoured with the title of Emeritus Professor.

From February to September 2018 inclusive I acted as the Head of the UQ School of Economics.The position of Deputy Executive Dean is a broad-ranging role in the UQ Faculty of Business, Economics and Law that includes assisting the Executive Dean in the provision of leadership within the Faculty and its' Schools with regard to planning, performance and University strategic and operational alignment. Part of the Faculty leadership team, the Deputy Executive Dean supports the academic and operational objectives of the Faculty, including financial management and oversight of governance and major projects and initiatives. The Deputy Executive Dean is a representative of the Executive Dean, Faculty and University to the external community and is responsible for developing and supporting continuous improvement initiatives for local, national and international collaborations and engagement activities. The Deputy Executive Dean works with the Associate Dean Academic and Associate Dean Research to create a 'One UQ' culture and to ensure that academic staff at all levels are able to undertake research and/or scholarship of teaching at the highest possible level of innovation and impact. This includes collaborative, industry-focused, and commercialisable research aimed at solving the world's critical, 'wicked' problems, creating positive change and aligned with UQ's vision of 'knowledge leadership for a better world'.
