Normal surveying duties but my experience this time included working on a Grade II listed building which was really interesting.

Trenchard House, Soho 13, London - £17m – JCT D&B, new build mixed residential, Procurement role – M&E, Home Automation, Brickwork, Carpentry, Metalwork and other packages. Reporting to Commercial Manager.

Senior QS covering all duties on a £2m school refurbishment and new build project under the JCT Intermediate Form 2011.

Short-term engagements for various companies carrying out procurement, pre tender work and post contract duties. Short term engagement acting as Project Manager for local council and acting as Client's Representative for local tennis club engaged in new build of courts and new lights.

Camden, London. Bespoke Form of Design & Build Contract based on NEC Form for LBC. £26m inner city school regeneration project comprising both new build and refurbishment. Senior QS 2nd to lead Senior QS. Duties included sub contract procurement and managing same sub contractors on site - ground-works, structural steel and concrete frame; preparation and formal submission of all Compensation Events.Unison HQ - London. £50m project value, Engaged in second stage tender sub contract procurement process. This involved full preparation of pricing documentation, collation of full package drawings and specifications, sub contract enquiries, organisation and chairing of sub contract mid tender review meetings including minute taking, liaison with and coordination of package managers, design manager and tender documentation to ensure all enquiries met client requirements; collation and comparison of tender returns to full package recommendation. Due to Client budget constraints all packages under went a Value Engineering process in order to procure within budget and to ensure value for money for the Client.

McCarthy & Stone Ltd are a Property Developer who build (residential) retirement homes (£3m - £5m project value) for the elderly. Initially engaged for short term however period extended by MCS due to extent of work. Duties included full sub contract procurement comprising preparation of pricing documentation, collation of drawings and specifications, sub contract enquiries and tender return comparisons through to full sub contract recommendation. Other duties included monthly sub contract payments, Cost Budget reconciliations, agreement of sub contract final accounts and budget closure for completed projects. Developments included Barnet, Aylesbury, Watford, Garston and Chesham. February 2007 - Ruddy Joinery Ltd - Ruddy Joinery are a specialist sub contractor. Provided claims advice generally and specifically relative to a live Ruddy contract. Began claim preparation and collated documents in support of claim including interviews with and interrogation of relevant personnel. Ruddy were able to settle with client before claim produced.January 2007 - MPG Contracts Ltd - MPG are a specialist dry-lining, plastering and ceilings sub contractor. Provided claims advice generally and specifically relative to a live MPG contract. Began claim preparation and collated documents in support of claim including interviews with and interrogation of relevant personnel. Attended meetings with main contractor and followed up with relevant correspondence, notifications etc. MPG were able to settle with client before claim produced.

Commercial Manager for Faram (project values £200k to £5m) who sub contract to the fit out industry supplying & installing glazed office fronts and cross-walls. Responsibilities covered all aspects of Commercial Management and surveying and included claims writing and submission with success on all claims submitted. I have also been responsible for leading a successful adjudication including liaison with barristers. Over and above the foregoing I have written several databases for Faram to deal with financial tracking of main works, after sales, archiving and bonus calculations for staff. Contract values range from £50k to £5M. Claims produced and claims recovery as follows: £1m with an award of £400k; £100k with an award of £30k; £60k with an award of £30k; Adjudication £90k with an award of £30k.

Kier Rail - Form of contract was bespoke Railtrack form. Engaged as Senior estimator/surveyor on the Station Regeneration Programme for Railtrack. Responsible for preparing and agreeing station implementation estimates. In essence this was an estimate of the total cost of work including all the peripheral costs such as possessions to regenerate specific stations. Estimate production included liaison with Project Managers, Planners, Architects, Railtrack Auditors and Surveyors. The estimate was then submitted to Railtrack for Investment Authority Approval, Target Cost Agreement, and Feasibility and Design Development fee estimates. Once approval and authority gained for each station the estimate was handed over to post contract surveyors. Gained extensive knowledge of construction within the rail environment including the use of possessions, possession management and night working during this three year period.

Now BAM - Start of career as Quantity Surveyor, gained steady promotion from assistant QS to Senior Quantity Surveyor. Gained extensive Design and Build experience of commercial, industrial and Government contracts ranging from £0.5M to £18M, carrying out all aspects of post contract work including: Valuations; Cost/Value reconciliations; Quarterly Forecasting; Subcontract reconciliations, measurement and payments; Valuation of variations, provisional sums and PC Sums. A notable event was my involvement in litigation which included giving evidence in High Court for 3 days. Litigation was brought about by the groundwork subcontractor and his disagreement of my assessment of his final account. Culmination of the trial after two years was that the Judge entirely agreed with my assessment of the valuation both in terms of the finances and my interpretation of the contract conditions upon which I had based the methodology of the final account assessment. Kyle Stewart won the case. Notable contracts included Harrow Crown Courts and South Mimms MSA.
