I’ve always wanted to get into golf as it’s been my passion from a young age and found it difficult initially to get a job in my area. I thought what can I do to increase the chances and that lead me to getting my NA level 2 and level 3 courses in sports turf management. After securing these qualifications there was no initial jobs still in my local area so I decided to go down the bar route to acquire my personal licence and cellar management qualifications. Shortly after acquiring these my golfing job started and I was hired as a greenkeeper for Axe Cliff Golf Club where I worked for 6 years and eventually working up to the position of steward which included the day to day running of the club and assisting on the course and in the clubhouse duties. During the 6 years I picked up extensive knowledge on the golf admin side and cooking which turned me into a good all round worker as I was able to fit in at any job required. In 2019 I got the chance to work at the Open in Royal Portrush with BIGGA and had the experience of a life time doing bunker raking for the pros and seeing what course set up was like for professional events. In 2021 I started working at American Golf where I have continued my learning into the retail side of things and having a good understanding of KPI’s and what to act on to make the business as good as it can be. I’m currently a club fitter and have thoroughly enjoyed the learning experience to date.
