I am based in the Photosynthesis Group (School of Biosciences) and collaborate with the Bioanalytical Facility (School of Chemical, Materials and Biological Engineering) on projects funded by Leverhulme, BBSRC and ERC. Our objective is to expand current understanding of the biosynthesis and assembly of photosynthetic complexes, using phototrophic bacteria and Arabidopsis thaliana as model organisms.My background is in the characterisation and quantification of proteins and peptides by mass spectrometry. My input into our research programme is focused on the following themes:• Quantitative proteomics of complexes involved in light harvesting and energy transfer in photosynthesis.• Analysis of protein-protein interactions within complexes that direct photosystem assembly.• Structural characterisation of the enzyme systems responsible for chlorophyll biosynthesis.The long-term aims of this research are (a) to inform the design of novel biological and bio-inspired systems for solar energy utilisation and (b) investigate strategies for enhancing biomass production in crop plants.

My responsibilities were demonstrating mass spectrometers to prospective users in the fields of protein characterisation, proteomics and lipidomics. I also provided after-sales training and support and managed instrument performance evaluation projects in liaison with colleagues in Europe and the US.
