Instrumental teaching posts with Glamorgan and the City of Birmingham, which included conducting, writing compositions and arrangements for wind bands and youth orchestras, as well as various wind groups in schools. He founded, and was musical director of both West Birmingham Schools' Wind Band and Halesowen Symphony Orchestra. As a specialist flute-player, he has tutored at colleges and universities and performing includes chamber music, orchestral, band and choral repertoire.Administration experience includes being ISM secretary for the Birmingham Centre, organising HF Music Making weeks and examining for Guildhall School of Music and Drama.Phil composes for orchestra, choir, chamber and solo instruments and voices as well as his specialist arrangements for woodwind instruments; Conversations for flute and piano was awarded 1st prize in the Horatio Albert Lumb Competition in 1992.
