Training Administrator

Remote

I was the training administrator for the NPS GOAL Academy. GOAL is an acronym for Generating Organizational Advancement and Leadership. The leadership development program targets GS 9-12 (and equivalents) from across the Service. Applicants are rated against a rubric; selectees are enrolled in the 9-month course. The learning consists of monthly assignments and monthly webinars, three in person sessions, and a project presentation in May.My role in this area was to coordinate all learning activities, including finding applicable leadership resources that met OPM's leadership competencies. This included books, articles, Ted Talks, etc. I also instructed in person workshops on Emotional Intelligence, Clifton Strengths, Barrett Values, and Myers-Briggs. I completed all other paperwork to secure outside vendors for other leadership based workshops such as conflict management, change management, and the neuroscience of leadership. The program is competitive in nature and highly sought after across the NPS. It changed the lives of many participants.

May 2020 - Sep 2023

Supervisory Education Specialist

Badlands National Park

My role was to connect students and teachers from across the world to the unique resources found in Badlands National Park. The programs adapted from in person to the virtual environment in early 2020. I supervised permanent and seasonal employees and managed the south unit visitor center. The highlight of my time there was through the development of our social media and website content. I was part of the team and served as the manager. Together we created and implemented a social media plan that received recognition at the National level. The team was high functioning with members working on projects they found to be worthwhile to them.

Dec 2019 - May 2020

Education Training Manager (Detail)

Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, United States

I served as the training manager for education professionals across the National Park Service. While serving in this detail capacity my focus was on the needs of the team across the NPS. I developed a needs assessment survey with the results guiding the resources developed and shared on the Common Learning Portal. The findings also helped guide offerings through monthly webinars called "For Educators By Educators."

Sep 2019 - Dec 2019

Training Instructor

Grand Canyon Village, Arizona, United States

As a training instructor for the NPS Fundamentals program, I instruct sessions pertaining to National Park Service operations (i.e., interpretation, resource management, visitor and resource protection, etc.), soft skills (leadership, teamwork, etc.), and emerging topics (harassment, safety) to new employees from national park service units, business and operation centers, and programs, such as Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program. It is my responsibility to be knowledgeable in each of the 64 sessions instructed and demonstrate how we all fit into the NPS mission. In addition, I was the project manager for a new training called "Mid-Career Enrichment." This new training was designed to meet the needs of our mid career employees. To meet their needs I designed a needs assessment that was completed by selected applicants and their supervisors. Workshops were developed for emerging themes, and executed during the residential session.

Feb 2016 - Sep 2019

Education Technician

Summit County, Ohio, United States

I served as an education technician at Cuyahoga Valley National Park's Environmental Education Center. I presented curriculum based environmental education programs for area school groups in a residential setting. The curriculum focuses on the impact humans have on watersheds. I was part of a much larger team of other NPS employees and park partners. We worked together to make the sessions impactful.
