As most of the students attending at the time were from the middle school in Arundel (M L Day School) where I had been a substitute teacher since 2000. Knowing virtually all the students and a couple of the staff made the transition very pleasant. I started subbing at TA (the upper school) a year or two later. My two sons, Sam and James, both attended TA. Sam graduating in 2006. James in 2009. -

During my interview, I was asked if I would be interested in being a driver to occasionally take dorm students to various activities. So, in the spring of 2011 I started driving after school and on an occasional weekend. Since the school year 2011-12, I have been part of the Residential Life staff. I enjoyed the opportunities to share cultures with the nearly 200 students from thirty different countries.

Day School, Arundel, Maine Sep 2000 - Jan 2011Arundel, MaineI started as a parent volunteer at M L Day School when my oldest son, Sam, was in 2nd grade in the fall of 1995. Sam's brother, James, started school there the following year. For five years I volunteered at least one day a week, I was active helping classroom teachers with whatever tasks they may have lined up for me. I also became active in the "Mother's Club" and with the PTA when it was established at the school. I served on many school committees, including search committees for administrators and grant writing to name a couple. I started substitute teaching in the fall of 2000. Over the years, I was a sub for every teacher in every class as well as the sub for the administrative assistant to the principal. One of my most fond experiences is when students from Arundel that have graduated from Thornton Academy in recent years speak of having me as a substitute teacher every single year starting in Kindergarden all the way through 12th grade! :)
