My family successfully operated a Chrysler franchise in Nephi Utah which was started by my grandfather and his brother in 1945. My father has been involved in the business since it's beginning. GMC was later added to the line up. 1980 Chevrolet, Buick,Pontiac and Chevy Truck were added.1984 Family business expanded to Southern Utah. St.George Chrysler franchise was added. Later Painter RV and Boat was added in St.George. Chrysler's and GM bankruptcy in 2009, all 3 franchise were terminated.2010 General Motors reinstated the Chevrolet, Chevrolet Truck and Buick.Mitsubishi Motors was added in 2010 in St.George Utah. Once the Patriarch of the family passed on, as often is the case, our family business was operated without vision & accountability by other family members who lacked depth & knowledge to operate correctly. Greed & Ego are an evil destructive combination to have to witness.

Las Vegas is the Land opportunity for some. As a transient town, financing is king. Many move here and can’t deal with the abundance & energy. Vegas will either be your best friend or many learn the hard way the other side of the Neon. Thus financing was such a large part of the business. 2008 when the banks started to tumble. Auto financing especially in Las Vegas was over scrutinized making an obtaining financing became very difficult for even good customers.By 2008 I was ready for a change and work the event business with the intention of returning to work with my father in St. George Utah at Painter Dodge Jeep Chrysler. In 2009 both GM Chrysler and even Ford we’re in a difficult position. GM in Chrysler were forced into bankruptcy by the Obama administration. Their solution to the problem was to eliminate dealerships. Let that sink in the dealerships were fine. It was the factory that was in trouble. May 2009 dealers were sent termination via FED Ex. (Can you think of anything more Cowardly?)Mopars at the Strip was created as an extension of our Mopar business 120 miles away in St.George, Utah. The unthinkable happened in May 2009, my families was terminated after my father being a loyal dealer for 60 years.Later Mopars At The Strip name was changed to MuscleCars At The Strip.

In 1984 an opportunity arose in St.George Utah for a Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth open point. The manufacturer had had 8 dealers go insolvent in the prior 10 years. My father had successfully operated a Dodge dealership for 35 years prior. The decision was made to relocate part of the family to St. George Utah and started a new business enterprise.After two years in operation The manufacture required us to build a new facility resulting in the highest rent factor of a Dodge Chrysler franchise west of the Mississippi. We were the first to build adjacent to I 15 on what was called Hilton Drive at the time. Starting a dealership from scratch and building a new facility after two years while helping develop a new road that had never existed was challenging and exciting at the same time. As often the case with family businesses, crossroads appears that allow you to move forward or cause you to start your own journey. That journey started for me on February 1 of 1992 when it was evident that purchasing stock or a percentage of the business that had previously been outlined and agreed to was now pulled from the table.It’s interesting what you will do for family. It’s more shocking what Family will do to you. Live & Learn. I have since been blessed to meet true leaders who have shown me a better path. The future of this endeavor experienced some unbelievable and cowardly actions by others resulting in some sad endings. Business owners if you are reading this and haven’t had a successful professional succession, plan drawn up and agreed-upon with clarity. I suggest you get it done and get it done now. The alternative is pure Hell.
