Victim'S Advocate, Media Spokesperson, Activist, Whistleblower, Non-Profit Org. Board MemberSnap Survivors Network, Bishopaccountability.Org Dec 1992 - PresentBoston, MaI first spoke publicly about my childhood sexual abuse by a Massachusetts Catholic priest back in late 1992, resulting in a news report that made the front page of the Boston Globe and generated headlines in other publications across the United States. Through pursuit of a civil suit against the Catholic Diocese of Worcester, MA, I determined that seven bishops in four different states had known that my abuser, Fr. David Holley, was a child molester. After managing to settle my lawsuit without any terms of confidentiality, (the first New England clergy abuse plaintiff to do so) I was able to speak freely regarding what I had learned about the institutional cover-up of child sex abuse within the Church. In 1997, I formalized my outreach to other victims of clergy abuse by founding the New England chapter of SNAP based in Boston. In the years that followed, I led support group meetings, built a database of victims and perpetrators and served as a highly visible media spokesperson on the issue. My August 2001, 4-hour meeting with the Boston Globe's Spotlight investigation team, is re-created in the acclaimed, Academy Award-winning feature film, "Spotlight," starring Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo and Rachel McAdams. My character is played by New York stage and film actor, Neal Huff, whose line in the film, "How do you say no to God?" summarizes the dilemma of every child who has grappled with sexual abuse by a once-trusted cleric.
