Phil joined EDF Energy in 2010 to establish and run the IS portfolio delivery function required to enable and support the construction of the first new nuclear power station in the UK for over 15 years. The investment in IS totaled c.£250m over the 7-year construction project and projects included implementation of a core accredited network infrastructure, voice and data connectivity for the construction site and associated developments, plus a varied applications portfolio including SAP Finance and HR; Primavera scheduling tools; cost management; construction quality control; delivery management; organisational learning and incident management; engineering design tools and document management to name a few.Phil established the governance model, delivery framework and organisational arrangements required to deliver this varied IS portfolio. With safety and predictability being of paramount importance in the nuclear industry, this required a highly disciplined and controlled approach to project delivery. In readiness for final investment decision and a subsequent sharp increase in demand for IS projects, Phil led a transformation programme to reposition the internal teams as an ‘Intelligent Customer’ and to select, appoint and on-board a network of strategic delivery partners, incentivised to achieve common goals and, ultimately, to enable the construction of the new power station.
