In the fast-paced environment of a television newsroom, Phil was responsible for managing the content on a website that generates more than 5 million page views each month. This included daily updates to news stories, as well as larger initiatives which developed over several weeks in conjunction with the sales and promotions departments, plus outside clients.๏ Write and edit news stories, some of which were shared with markets across the country.๏ Act as a journalist, creating content on topics including music, sports and celebrity gossip.๏ Shoot photographs and video to be used in conjunction with news stories.๏ Design and maintain specialized pages with news, sales and/or promotional needs in mind.๏ Fully develop self-contained 'microsites' to better highlight particular content.๏ Optimize content for multiple internet browsers, including mobile platforms.๏ Work with Adobe Photoshop (and Creative Suite software) to develop web graphics.๏ Create visuals consistent with CBS and/or sales client guidelines, to solidify brand identity.๏ Maintain a consistent user interface via colors, fonts and web design techniques.๏ Write and edit HTML and CSS to design website user interface elements.๏ Work with multiple content management systems and partners to get stories online quickly.๏ Monitor site statistics using Google Analytics and make layout decisions based on results.๏ Fine-tune content to meet SEO specifications and optimize stories for potential web traffic.๏ Monitor activity on the station’s Facebook and Twitter pages, and share appropriate news.๏ Facilitated in three site redesigns, including the creation of the station’s first Web Team.๏ Starred in the station’s first on-air television commercials to promote the website.๏ Named as the station’s 'Employee of the Month' in July 2007 and June 2014.๏ Won the AAJA’s 2007 National Journalism Award for a series about healthcare in Indonesia.

Under tight deadlines — sometimes just a few minutes — Phil was responsible for the creation of on-air promotional spots highlighting CBS and (then) UPN affiliate programming. It required close communication with the station’s art department and management to maintain consistent branding and produce 20-30 different spots each day.

I was involved in the entire production process of a locally-produced film review television program ("Behind the Screens") which taped weekly. While primary duties were in the editing room and post-production, my creativity, leadership and expertise were frequently called upon for script development, fact checking and gathering video for taping.

I was responsible for the weekly placement and display of movie advertising items including posters, marquee titles, banners, standees and decals shown across a 17-screen cineplex. The position required a familiarity with marketing strategies, specific ad campaigns and general film industry trends.

Starting first as an usher, I was in charge of routine theater cleanup and assisting customers at a 17-screen cineplex, often leading a team to get the work done quickly and efficiently. I later advanced to the position of projectionist, responsible for the simultaneous operation and management of 17 film projectors.
