Based in Brisbane, Phil is a lighting, audiovisual and theatre specialist bringing a broad spectrum of design skills ranging from performance venue planning advice through to the design of theatre technical systems including stage machinery and drapes, stage lighting and sound systems, backstage communications and even electrical systems design. Phil’s additional interests in lighting and audiovisual systems have also resulted in the expansion of his design and consultancy skills to include the design of architectural and theatrical lighting for many commercial projects including hospitality, retail and entertainment facilities. In addition he is credited with the detailed design of sophisticated audiovisual and videoconferencing systems for libraries, galleries, auditoria, theatres, boardrooms, ballrooms, convention facilities, defence installations, courts and Council Chambers.Prior to gaining his professional engineering qualifications, Phil spent over a decade working as a sound and theatre professional with companies such as the Victorian Arts Centre, Queensland Performing Arts Centre and a private commercial theatre sound company in Sydney. As such, he has worked and toured shows in many major venues on the East Coast and South Australia. Prior to Design Stage, Phil successfully ran the Queensland operation for another international specialist design firm. Consequently, Phil possesses a sound knowledge of the audiovisual and theatre industries and of how facilities actually operate. Coupled with this first hand knowledge, Phil’s engineering qualifications and consulting experience in the construction industry combine to offer a uniquely skilled design professional.
