Phil has joined Aptia to provide leadership experience to the Technical and Research Group. Phil was previously Chief Actuary for JLT where he was responsible for all aspects of actuarial conduct across the business in addition to acting as Scheme Actuary and advising a number of key clients. He also lead their Technical and Research Group (QRG). He is a well known industry figure and serves as a member of the Association of Consulting Actuaries main committee among other professional interests.Phil’s other experience includes…• Acting as trustee to a £600m hybrid scheme dealing with all aspects of scheme funding governance and investment.• Participation in and chairmanship of trustee subcommittees including administration and investment, including a full restructuring of DC investment options.• Advising trustee boards of DB and hybrid schemes with asset sizes ranging from £5m to over £1bn. The sponsoring employers of these schemes ranged from extremely strong and profitable to those which ultimately failed and their schemes entered PPF.• Leading trustee training, governance and TKU sessions with trustee bodies and devising trustee development workshops for his clients.• Leading initiatives to ensure that conflicts of interest between sponsors and trustees were addressed and that all parties could be confident they were receiving full and appropriate advice without compromise from other relationships.• Providing advice to sponsoring employers, particularly in relation to pension scheme funding and pension aspects of merger and acquisition activity.• As an active member of the ACA he has provided input to Government, Regulators and others on key developments in the pensions arena, not least in the area of conflicts of interest.
