Took over source code ownership of a mission-critical middleware component, which needed several bug fixes and enhancements over this time frame. QA testing and proper installation procedures were critical when making changes to this component to ensure that the factory was not impacted.Identified another hardware/software component that was a major bottleneck in the processing of factory data, which could have resulted in factory output limitations. Worked with a team to re-design and implement the improved system before the existing system could be a bottleneck.Made improvements to several support documents, enabling the Intel help desk to more successfully respond to user issues 24/7, without having to page the Automation staff as often. Greatly reduced the number of after-hours escalations to our engineering group.
Supported data collection, transfer, and analysis systems in the manufacturing wafer sort environment. Systems collected data from test equipment in almost real time, reformatted and transferred to upstream systems, and presented itself for analysis by factory engineers.
Developed a PC-based station controller to improve the operation and efficiency of the off-line ink module.Helped write a software package that took text files produced by a production wafer tester, filtered out "imperfect" sections of it, outputted it in a different format needed by upstream databases, then transferred the file to the upstream system.Converted a tester network from Apollo Token Ring to Ethernet, proving to the tester vendor that it could be done, and Ethernet was at least equally as fast as the token ring network - and used standard Ethernet networking components, simplifying the network environment.
Performed duties of a system administrator for a small network of Apollo workstations that were the computer hosts of production wafer test equipment. Installed software updates, upgraded hardware, troubleshot issues with hardware and software.Evaluated commercial system to allow the "off-line inking" of wafers. After this system was rejected, I developed an alternate solution to accomplish this task.Through optimization of existing software, worked with the owning divisional engineer to lower the test time of the 486DX2 processor to less than 1 second per die, tremendously improving throughput on a high-demand product.
Worked with a team to justify purchasing a VAX minicomputer for each of Intel's wafer fabs to be used for yield improvement. These systems ended up paying for themselves in less than a year.Developed software to provide other engineers a menu and form based interface that allowed them to generate various types of charts from data collected in the factory using the SAS programming language.Worked directly with process engineers to develop custom data analysis applications for them to be able to make improvements in their functional areas.
