Freelance statistician and part-time data scientist performing R&D in the field of audio processing.Statistics: I have 11 years experience in academic statistics, 5 years working in statistical modelling at investment banks.AI: My PhD was in AI, where I developed an early version of the variational autoencoder (VAE), but back in 2007 before it had the name VAE. This was also before deep networks and the reparameterization trick, so it was trained using wake-sleep. I am currently working on independent research using neural networks (normalizing flows) to solve some key problems in statistics, and work at Insone doing research and development into the use of neural networks in audio processing.Education: Master's with distinction from Oxford in Applied Mathematics, PhD in Neural Networks.
