I'm a Software Engineering leader with an "outside the cubical" focus. For about half of my career, I've been leading software development teams focused on delivering integrations and solutions for the web. I'm currently at Layer One, where I'm helping to grow new teams and develop a software delivery practice with strong software engineering principles. I'm a believer in creating interactions between business stakeholders, clients and developers when working on software products. I believe building communication paths across organizations helps make better software. I'm also a strong believer in optimizing engineering workflows to remove opportunities for error, help developers fall into success, and increase delivery velocity.I like hard problems and I like bouncing ideas off others to find solutions to them. I like discovering new things and learning new skills, and I'm always ready to read or listen to someone tell me about new technology.

Software Engineer IDematic North America Oct 2011 - Mar 2014Atlanta, Georgia, UsA Software Engineer at Dematic is not your typical Software Engineer. At Dematic, I write code in the office, test it in a simulation of a job site, and deploy and troubleshoot to a production warehouse. I am currently programming primarily using the Java J2EE language working with the JCoffee Architecture and JBoss server. I also do work in Oracle PL/SQL to develop views for our database. Notable work I've done:- Developed host transaction processing systems for DC Director Warehouse Control System projects. This system prepared messages to send and processed messages received from a host interface. Systems I've developed for have sent and received messages via JMS (Java Messaging Service), shared Oracle database tables, and socket connections. The messages have been encoded as padded text, JSON, and XML on the projects I have worked on.- Created numerous web based user interface dialogs using the Google Web Toolkit to display critical system data. These dialogs are used on all installations of DC Director worldwide.- Maintained and developed Rich Client GUI dialogs using the Java AWT (Abstract Window Toolkit) library. Experience working with various LayoutManagers, such as BorderLayout, GridLayout, and GridBagLayout. Learned to import images into dialogs, create buttons, create and handle various dialog states, and perform actions conditionally based on user selections on dialogs.-Experience writing design documentation for host transaction processing systems for DC Director Warehouse Control System projects. Designed detailed functionality for interactions between DC Director and host system, including functionality and message format. All work done using Eclipse IDE and checked into a Tortoise SVN Version Control system. Projects built using Ant and Maven. -

Co-Founder And Chief Technical OfficerIntonation Llc Apr 2010 - Oct 2010Took an idea and made it reality. Approached by a friend in July 2009 asking if I was interested in taking on a project for pitch correction software for USB MIDI keyboards. Started working on it during my senior year at Marquette University. We developed the Dynamically Tunable Keyboard, or DTK, in Java by the end of my college career. The DTK used Just Intonation music theory as the basis for a tuning algorithm for the digital piano. The DTK was a piece of software that ran on Windows and Mac OS X systems with a MIDI keyboard connected. The software allowed for the user to play their keyboard in Just Intonation tuning in real time. The software would track the chords and notes being played on the piano, and use that data to calculate and produce specific tuning in real time. This took the digital piano to a whole new level. Instead of only being able to play 88 specific tones, it could now play an infinite amount of tones.Eventually, we wanted to take the DTK to market. We entered in the Kohler Center for Entrepreneurship Marquette Business Plan Competition. We developed a business plan that took second place, which is rare for undergraduate participants. We filed as an LLC and obtained a provisional patent for our technology. We developed a marketing and branding strategy - the DTK would end up as "Tonality." We released Tonality as a beta on our company website. I left Intonation not long after this to peruse other opportunities. They are still doing their best to make excellent sound a reality.
