I was a member of the build team in the IBM Java Technology Centre, which ported Java Virtual Machines (JVMs) to new platforms and ensured compliance with the latest Java specifications. Our team was responsible for maintaining and enhancing a build system to produce daily builds of in excess of 50 different versions of the JVM. This distributed system was written in shell script, Perl and Rexx and ran on a large variety of different platforms including Windows, Linux and mainframe.In this role I:- Maintained and enhanced the build system.- Learnt to program in Perl.- Gained experience on a large range of platforms including Windows, Linux, AIX and z/OS.- Designed and implemented build system changes to produce builds for a new platform.- Conducted feasibility studies for build changes and then implemented those changes.- Worked with developers and support engineers to make changes to the build system.- Wrote new Build System documentation and kept the current documentation up to date.- Answered questions and helped my colleagues around the world with build related problems.
