After 30+ years of vocational worship ministry, I'm committing these later years to at-risk worship leaders. I've been accepted as a Field Shepherd with Standing Stone Ministries. An astonishing number of Worship Pastors/directors/leaders are flaming out, or having moral failures. Most of them agree that simply having a "safe" person with whom to talk would have made all the difference, particularly an older, fellow Creative. It's a fully faith-supported venture and I'm building a support team now. I'll assist Stonebridge in transition until years' end; Mitzi and I remain fans and members. Homebase will stay right here in Cedar Rapids, a terrific central location for most of the US.

Overall Charge: Foster an environment where the congregation can best connect with God. The "producer" of each service and special program, working with the Senior Pastor as the "director" in terms of setting the theme and overall direction. Oversees and coordinates all the details that a service encompasses. Ensures that all the musical and technical aspects of the service advance the theme for the day. Oversees song and choral selection, media preparation and presentation, sound and lighting enhancements, and coordination of all instrumentalists and vocalists. Leads the congregation in worship by skill and example.

Developed and implemented a philosophy of worship for the ministry, working with Pastor Mike Whisner. During this period, the church grew from 80 to over 500, a season of revival and growth. Phil discipled and equipped multiple lead worship teams and outreach teams.

Connected with various smaller churches in the Pacific Northwest, offering conferences and other support as needed.

Interviewed hundreds of praise-song writers, and wrote the popular "Song Stories" column. With co-writer Shari McDonald, Phil expanded and reprinted these articles in two books published by Kregel Books. During these same years Phil also provided professional reviews and maintained "Indie Central," a column which provided independent songwriters with regular exposure.
