Cunning Running Software Ltd has been developing Vulnerability Assessment Software for both the Military and Police forces worldwide for more than two decades. As the Software has developed over this time as well as our customer base, we can provide Vulnerability Assessments (VA) as a service. With my military background as well as a deep understanding of UK Police VA procedures I have now taken on the role of carrying out Weapon VA's using our software. These include Direct and Indirect Fire (Mortar Baseplate), MANPADS and Counter Drones Vulnerability Assessments.

Manage the Testing Team as well as participate in carrying out application testing of new builds and rectification of software fixes prior to release. Deals directly with customer base with software issues using over the phone techniques in identifying and where appropriate diagnosing and rectifying problems. If issue identified raises new bugs and liaises directly between customer and Project Manager / developers providing rectification timelines.

Responsible for managering the technical authors writing and producing user guides and application .chm help files for multiple versions of software provided by CRSL. Implementing Dialog ID's associated to software dialog boxes, screenshots and detailed instructions on the use of the software.

Has the responsibility in conducting training to Police, Military and Security Forces Counter Terrorism and Force Protection techniques and cross referring them in the operation and use of bespoke Force Protection and Counter Terrorism vulnerability assessment software used in the UK and overseas. Experienced in travelling and setting up training facilities with Computer Based Training workstations in secure locations and training with simultaneous translators. Also, responsible for writing ‘Train the Trainer’ course documentation and training materials for users own trainers to carry out their own training. This includes direct liaison with the customer discussing training requirements, compiling training material with scripted course literature and screenshots of the course requires. On completion carry’s out coaching and support for trainers to carry out future training and update literature on delivery of new software version.

CAA registered Commercial Drone Pilot with Permission to Fly for Commercial Operations (PfCO)Responsible for maintaining the Ops Manual, flight logs and flight planning as well as planned maintenance of the four drones currently in use by the comany.Currently using drones to carry out 3D Modelling and processing maps in house on local servers therefore maintaining security of the data by not using cloud mapping suppliers. This is then used within our software where it is currently not available from national providers. It is also provides up to date maps by surveying temporary structures such as public events so police command have an up to date image of the area to be policed. Used to carry out Counter Drone Vulnerability Assessments on venues to give an appreciation of what is visible from potential drone sites from the air.

Had the sole responsibility for maintaining the company’s core LAN/WAN infrastructure of servers, clients, storage arrays, and networking systems, installing software upgrades and security patches. Maintain a secure environment for core data, performing regular backups of core data repositories, and ensuring correct configuring of network firewalls. Maintaining the network’s anti-malware capability, monitoring for signs of external intrusion, and taking appropriate action to prevent denial of IT service or disruption to business.Maintain a test environment for the company’s core software development business and a secure training network for the company’s training courses.Maintain an inventory of core IT systems, user systems and network devices, and manage their end of life disposals whilst assessing IT maturity in terms of system performance/efficiency, and recommend improvements. Recommend and acquire equipment replacements and upgrades as necessary.Maintain a document set of the company’s LAN/WAN infrastructure and processes and monitor network bandwidth and traffic use, recommending beneficial changes to usage, upgrades and configuring switches and VLAN’s as required.Monitor and audit core IT systems and software, replacing servers, SANs, workstations, networking components as required and addressing system problems as they arise, and replacing failed hardware components as needed.Monitor individual server processor and memory usage, understanding usage patterns, and recommending beneficial upgrades to enhance performance. With the retirement of the company founder, Cunning Running has now become an Employee Ownership Trust - a succession plan for employees to control the company and become truly motivated and inspired to make the company work. As part of the Trust, I was nominated to assume the role of Employee Trustee and Director of Cunning Running Trust Ltd board.

I specialised as a Tactical Data Link Manager in the Royal Navy, overseeing Link 11, 16, and STDL operations, and managing data forwarding. My role encompassed crafting OPTASK Link signals and leading the development and delivery of Tactical Data Link training.As a Lead Instructor, I significantly influenced the career trajectories of ratings, Senior NCOs, and Officers, fostering confidence and skill enhancement through personalised training sessions and rigorous career courses. My training programs were tailored to meet diverse military needs, featuring engaging, outcome-focused content supported by detailed assessments and action plans.In a technical capacity, I served as the Lead Test Engineer for Royal Navy JTIDS Ships Systems, spearheading Data Forwarding from inception to operational deployment. This role involved high-level liaison between Navy Command, the Joint Data Link Management Organisation, and other branches to enhance software and capabilities.Additionally, I managed Human Resources, advocating for improvements in team welfare and working conditions that directly influenced policy changes and morale. I also managed Operation Rooms in peace and operational theatres, ensuring front-line unit readiness and providing comprehensive leadership support.My experience in Force Protection involved stringent security duties, including armed sentry and patrols under UK Rules of Engagement, to protect against threats such as public disorder and unauthorised access.
