Originally from an engineering background, I've really enjoyed the chance to go into new industries to understand how things are done and rise to the challenge of designing software which adds to my clients' productivity.I have covered all aspects of project management from initial discussion to final implementation over the years but my favourite aspects, if I'm pushed, are the design and development stages. It's here that I can combine the latest technology within tested techniques to overcome potential problems and achieve exciting but dependable software.My experience as an independent software developer encouraged me to develop key skills such as robust quality assurance, listening to, and understanding wide-ranging customer requirements, developing a shared vision of what’s possible, exceeding those expectations and even perseverance in the face of moving goal posts! To survive for over 25 years, I have had to make sure my customers were fully satisfied with my work from design to delivery and it has been a pleasure to have repeat orders over the years. I am delighted to count leading companies such as Tarmac, Smith’s Industries and Pilkington’s Glass amongst my customers.Following changes in the industry, I combined consultancy and contracting and have been working for a number of clients on this basis since 1999. This has meant a variety of work, systems and industries. In practice this has required a greater degree of flexibility (of languages, time management and technical understanding), and allowed me to take on more long-term projects with strategic and operational software responsibilities.
