Working as part of the UK National Screening Committee secretariat in the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities, I am responsible for reviewing and evaluating the effectiveness of the national screening programmes across the UK, ensuring that programmes continue to achieve their stated goals, provide clear benefits and maintain effectiveness through the provision of high quality and accessible screening.I manage a team of screening data and information analysts responsible for gathering and interpreting data from multiple sources in order to inform this work, and preparing and delivering presentations and reports to senior leaders, ensuring that screening data and information is meaningful and accessible, and that key messages are conveyed clearly to ministers, the general public and other stakeholders.I work closely with screening programme leads and quality assurance advisors in NHS England on the development and review of pathway standards and performance thresholds, advising on the data requirements, reporting calculations and appropriate measures for monitoring performance, effectiveness and quality.My work supports the implementation of new screening programmes and the further development of existing programmes through the translation of screening specification, pathway and data policy requirements into operational requirements, ensuring an effective link from screening policy into IT and data delivery. I advise on the development of national screening systems, working with NHS England to analyse, structure and specify IT system requirements, and liaising with programme leads, clinicians, digital colleagues and commercial system suppliers to support successful delivery.

For a successful 3-year term, I held the national position of Chair of the British Association of Retinal Screening (BARS), the UK's professional body for those who work in the field of diabetic eye screening and retinal clinical care. I was elected to the national council in 2012, serving as a Council Member for 3 years and as Deputy Chair for a further year, before being elected to the position of Chair in 2016.Responsibilities include:Providing strategic direction and leadership for the association and the profession it represents, overseeing all activities undertaken by the governing council and taking ultimate responsibility for any decisions made and actions taken.Representing the association and its members on expert reference panels, stakeholder groups and national advisory boards, and acting as an ambassador for the profession, providing professional advice and making appropriate use of speaking engagements and press requests to gain reputational influence through the sharing of best practice.Building strategic relationships with partnership organisations including the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, Public Health England and the National Diabetic Eye Screening Programme, ensuring that the association and its work makes a positive contribution to the achievement of national goals and priorities.Leading and managing the governing council, developing a shared purpose and ensuring that tasks are allocated appropriately and that all requirements and responsibilities of the association are carried out in order to facilitate the delivery of excellent clinical practice.Acting as publisher of the Diabetic Eye Journal, overseeing the biannual production and distribution of this national ophthalmic journal, and ensuring that the association communicates effectively with its members, stakeholders and partnership organisations.

I have been a BARS council member since 2012, and am the current Chair Elect and chair of the conference committee, overseeing the organisation and management of the annual conference. I have previously acted as the association's webmaster, creating the first BARS social media pages and working to improve communication between the association and its members. As a BARS council member, I attend regular meetings to identify the needs of screening staff and develop strategies to support them, both locally and nationally. My work with BARS has allowed me to foster links with professionals working in all aspects of diabetic eye screening, including programme managers, ophthalmologists, and screening, admin and failsafe staff. As a result, I have a detailed knowledge of the national diabetic eye screening programme, as well as the day to day running of local programmes and the roles of staff within them.
